death of awoman found dead in his home by
police last week.
Richard Elmer Jackson is accused of
causing the death of Travisteene Jackson,
whose body officers discovered under a
blanket in a home on Greenwood Court Dec.
17. Officers were called to the home at about
3:37 a.m. following a report of a “suicidal
male subject” according to police reports.
When officers responded to the address,
they were unable to get anyone to answer
their knocks at the door. Lt. Charles Bazzy
established telephone contact with Jackson
and persuaded him to open the front door to
speak with the officers. When Jackson
opened the door, Van Buren Township offi-
cers became concerned for his safety and
the safety of the other residents in the house,
according to police reports.
The officers on scene secured Jackson
and entered the home to perform a welfare
check, police said. While conducting the
welfare check, officers observed the body of
an adult female on the floor covered with a
blanket. Upon further investigation, the offi-
cers identified the corpse as that of
Travisteene Jackson, who was pronounced
deceased at the scene. The Van Buren
Township officers on scene took the male
resident in to custody, secured the scene and
contacted the Van Buren Township
InvestigativeDivision.
The Van Buren Township Investigative
Division obtained and served a search war-
rant at the residence securing investigative
information and physical evidence.
Jackson's body was turned over to theWayne
County Medical Examiner who performed
an autopsy and has ruled the death a homi-
cide. The VanBuren Township Investigative
Division forwarded the completed investiga-
tion and warrant request to the Wayne
CountyProsecutor for review.

Murder First Degree - Premeditated. He
will re-appear at the 34thDistrict Court for a
preliminary examination on the charges

Thanksgiving dinner at the T.J. Coleman Community Center. APA President Bronson
Bell of Romulus said dinner was served to everyone who attended. The dinner is one
of numerous events throughout the year to help meet the needs of the community.
Other projects include the Romulus Community Festival (formerly called the Jones
Sub Festival) in the summer, a back-to-school program featuring free supplies in the
fall, tutoring, computer classes and other community service work, Bell said.
Membership meetings take place at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month,
including Jan. 8, 2014 and are open to the public.

the animals and other pets adopted by local households, a city spokesman said. The fea-
tured animal this week Ki-ki, a "sweet" 7-year-old cat that is spayed. Ki-ki "doesn't like dogs
too much, but loves people and loves to be cuddled in your lap," a shelter worker said. The
Animal Shelter is located at 12300 Wayne Road. Adoption hours are 8 to 11 a.m. and 2:30
to 4 p.m. weekdays - or by appointment. For more information, call (734) 942-7591. Shelter
staff suggested calling before visiting the shelter in case the animal of the week has already
found a home. The Animal Shelter relies on financial donations and contributions of sup-
