Annual Taste of Westland set
Westland will ‘Deck City Hall’
For nearly two decades, the Holiday
Taste Fest has been the premier holiday
charity event inWestland.
This year, the Holiday Taste Fest is set
for 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the
Hellenic Cultural Center, 36375 Joy Road
inWestland.
The event, sponsored by the Westland
Chamber of Commerce and Westland
Rotary Club, boasts 12 favorite area
restaurants and culinary artists featuring
their tasty treats and festive holiday dis-
plays. Therewill also be a live auction, raf-
fles, and entertainment by the Marsha
Gayle Band. Emcees Ralph and Kim
Cabildo of RC DJ and Video, will keep the
eventmoving and lead the live auction.
This charitable event also features a
children's winter clothing drive. Donors
who bring new or gently used children's
gloves, hats or boots (for children ages 3
and older) will be entered in a special raf-
fle to win a $100 gift card, courtesy of Zeal
Credit Union.
Tickets for the event are $25 which
includes food and entertainment. There
will be a cashbar.

Santa Claus will visit downtown Wayne
from noon until 2 p.m. Dec. 2 to officially
open theholiday season.
Wayne Main Street and the Knights of
Columbus Council #3021 will be hosting a
Visit with Santa inDerby's Alley located at
35005 W. Michigan Ave. right next to GI
Surplus.
Children 12 and younger will have the
opportunity to visit with Santa and receive
a coloring book and candy cane. The first
100 children to register will also receive a
free hot dog from Heavenly Hot Dogs.
The event is free for all to attend and
organizerswill be providing goodies for all
participants including hot chocolate,
cider, and cookies provided by Bakers
Acre. The Heavenly Hot Dogs food cart
will also be on site and will have food
items available for purchase.
“We want to give families in Wayne the
opportunity to take their kids to see Santa,
while spending some time together in the
heart of our amazing downtown,” noted
Paul Sposite, Deputy Grand Knight with
the Knights of Columbus. The event will
take place outdoors, so organizers are ask-
ing participants to dress accordingly. More

The Holiday Tree Lighting in Wayne
will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. the same
evening. At the Wayne Historical Museum
(1 Towne Square). Festivities begin at 6
and include cookies, hot chocolate and
coffee, caroling, and an opportunity to
tour themuseumand visit Santa.
Santa and Mrs.
Claus will arrive in
Westland during a
celebration begin-
ning at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The
annual
Deck the City Hall
celebration will
begin the holiday season in the city, officials said, when residents and guests gath-
er in front of city hall to sing Christmas carols andwelcome Santa andMrs. Claus.
Cookies and hot cocoa will be served in city hall after the couple helps Mayor
WilliamR. Wild light the official Christmas tree and city hall grounds. There will
also be interactive dance activities in order to promote theWestlandHealthy City
Initiative and children can write out their lists for Santa and put them in Santa's
Mailbox that goes direct to theNorthPole.
Children will also have a chance to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. As part of
the Westland Compassionate City Initiative, anyone who brings a $5 per child or
$10 per family monetary donation for “Shop with a Hero” or an unwrapped toy
for the Westland Goodfellows toy drive will get a Fast Pass to see Santa and will
be able to skip the line.
There will be overflow parking available at JC Penney at Westland Shopping
Center and free shuttle buseswill be provided.
For those who cannot attend the “Deck the City Hall” event, letters to Santa
canbe dropped off at Santa'sMailbox atWestlandCityHall fromNov. 28 toDec. 8.

wow guests with their dazzling display of holiday treats at the Holiday Taste Fest.
