LittleDickens Band visits library
The Friends of the Plymouth District
Library will present The Little Dickens Band
in concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at the library.
The band will perform holiday tunes and
old standards from the Victorian times and
'Merry Ol England'. Instrumentation will
include flute, guitar, pennywhistle, concertina
anddulcimer.
The event is free but registration is request-

Santa to attend brunch
Van Buren Township Recreation
Department will host Brunch With Santa from
11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Dec. 16 at Van Buren
TownshipHall.
Pancakes by King Brothers, sausage, milk,
orange juice and coffeewill be served.
The Jitterbugs Elite Dance Group will
entertain and there will be a craft to make
after brunch.
The cost is $6 per person, children younger
than 3 are admitted at no cost.

Hope for theHolidays planned
Hope for the Holidays is a seminar for
adults who are grieving and for those who
would like to help them. The seminar will
include a Time of Remembrance candle light-
ing at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at Ward Evangelical
PresbyterianChurch, 40000 SixMileRoad (just
west of Haggerty Road), Northville, Room C-
319.
Parking is available in the “C” lot.
Registration is not necessary, for the semi-
nar, conducted by New Hope Center for Grief
Support a 501c3 non-profit organization that
offers workshops to those who are grieving the
deathof a loved one.
New Hope Center serves as a bereavement
outreach center; proceeds from this event go to
support their programs which are offered at no
cost.
Movie andMakeover set
The Van Buren Township Recreation
Department will host Movie and a Makeover
for girls ages 5-12 from6-9 p.m. Dec. 8.
Dinner will be pizza and pop and the
makeover will include a manicure, makeup
and temporary tattoos.
Van Buren residents’ fee is $18, non-resi-
dent, $22.

Special church service planned
St. Clement's Men's Guild will host the 2012
Annual Men and Boy's Corporate Communion
at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 2.
The special guest preacher and speaker
will be Eddie Connor, of Open Door Ministries
in Royal Oak. Connor is an author, educator,
speaker andTVhost. Therewill be a book sign-
ing after the breakfast.

The church is located at 4300 Harrison

Benefit for grief center planned
New Hope for the New Year, an evening of
elegance to benefit NewHope Center for Grief
Support in Northville is planned from 7 p.m.
until 10 p.m. Dec. 7 inLyonTownship.
Cost for the event which includes musical
entertainment, gift basket raffles, a chocolate
fountain, hors d'oeuvres and beverages is $40
per person in advance or $45 at the door.
The event will take place in the new
Crestwood model of Pulte Homes located at
58751 Peters Barn in Lyon, south of Ten Mile
andwest ofMilfordRoad.

Museumhosts children'sworkshops
The Children's Christmas Ornament
Workshops will take place at 10 and 11 a.m.
and again at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at theBelleville Area
Museum.
A second workshop, hosted by the Girl
Scouts, will take place at noon, 1 and 2 p.m.
Dec. 15.
Pre-registration for the workshops is
encouragedbut not required.
Children will craft four ornaments to take
home during the workshops. The cost is $2 per
child and includes a tour of the museum
Festival ofHolidayTrees.
Santawill be available for photos bothdays.
The museum is located at 405 Main St. in
Belleville.

Nutcraker ballet performed
The Michigan Philharmonic orchestra and
the Plymouth Canton Ballet Company will
present Tchaikovsky's ballet, The Nutcracker
at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at the
SalemHighSchool auditoriuminCanton.
The performance will feature guest stars
Cory Goei and Nicky Coehlo - of the James
Sewell Ballet Company.
Presale Tickets are $23 for adults and $16
for children and $25 and $18 the day of the per-
formances. Tickets for the Sugar PlumParade,

Polar Express is onscreen
The State-Wayne Theatre will present The
Polar Express all dayDec. 1 and 2 for $1 admis-
sion.
The theater now features a newly renovated
lobby and concession stand and top of the line
digital projection system.
The Polar Express is the story of a boy's
journey to rediscover Santa at the North Pole,
based on the classic book.
The State Wayne Theatre is located on
MichiganAvenueWest indowntownWayne.
Official tree lighting set
The official lighting of the Wayne Holiday
Tree is planned for 7-8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the
HistoricalMuseum.
Mayor Al Haidous andSantaClauswill light
the tree and St. Mary Catholic Church Youth
Choir will lead the gathering with Christmas
songs.
At 7:15, the crowd will move into the
Historical Museum to visit with Santa and
enjoy cookies and hot chocolate served by the
WayneBeatificationCommittee.
Santa hosts luncheon
The Wayne Westland Parks and Recreation
Department will host Lunch with Santa from
10:45 a.m. until noon at the Wayne Community
Center.
The cost is $4 for residents and $5 for non-
residents. Children younger than 2 are admit-
ted at no cost.
Photo packages with Santa will be available
at an additional fee.
Tickets are limited and can be purchased at
the Community Center, 4635 Howe Road in
Wayne. More information is available by call-

Salvation Army offers help
The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit
is accepting applications for Christmas
assistance from residents throughout
the area. Applications will be accepted
at all local Salvation Army Corps
Community Centers weekdays through
Dec. 14. For dates and time contact the
Plymouth office at (734) 453-5464 or the
WayneWestland office at (734) 282-0930.
Families with children, individuals
with special needs and senior citizens
can apply to receive a box of non-perish-
able foods as well as a grocery store gift
card to purchase fresh foods. Families
with children up to age 14 can also apply
for toys fromSalvation Army Corps com-
munity centers' toy shops to brighten
their Christmasmorning.
Early applications are strongly rec-
ommended. Applicants must bring a pic-
ture identification for each household
adult, birth certificates for household
children and a current utility bill, aswell
as proof of household income and
expenses.
“We want to help ease our neighbors'
worries about having a good meal to eat
and presents for their children this holi-
day season,” said Major Mark Anderson,
general secretary and metro Detroit
area commander for The Salvation
Army.
“We hope our Christmas assistance
program helps alleviate additional pres-
sures that coincide with the holiday sea-
son, so that our neighbors in need can
focus on spending the holidays togeth-
er.”
In the past year, The Salvation Army
provided 90,225 Christmas gifts to chil-
dren and seniors.
