Benefit for coach Saturday
The Rick Cigile Benefit Open Skate will
take place from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at
Arctic Edge Ice Arena, 46615 Michigan Ave.
inCanton. There is a $5minimumcash dona-
tion which does not include the $3 skate
rental fee.
Cigile is the former Canton Amateur
Hockey Association head coach who was
seriously injured in an accident while vaca-
tioning inFlorida in June.
All proceeds from the event will go to help
his family with medical costs and home
remodeling to accommodatehiswheelchair.

After school recreation programs offered
Registration is already under way for the
City of Wayne Department of Parks and
Recreation After School Recreation
Programs.
The programs usually take place on
Mondays and Wednesdays after school
hours. The department is offering a basket-
ball league from Nov. 7 until Dec. 13 and a
dodge ball league fromJan. 18 until Feb. 15.
The program is designed for third and
fourth-grade students from Hoover,
Schweitzer, Roosevelt and Taft-Galloway ele-
mentary schools.

CemeteryWalk planned
They will appear from behind the mark-
ers of their own graves and tell the tales of
their lives this year during the annual
Cemetery Walk at Oakwood Cemetery in
Northville.
The pioneers who first settled in
Northville, many of the unsung heroes of the
past and several past residents who served
or were involved in the Civil War will speak
to those brave enough to enter the cemetery
from4-7 p.m. Oct. 16.
The timed tours leave at 10-minute inter-
vals to prevent crowding and advance tickets
are $10 per person or $8 for groups of 10 or
more. Day of the event tickets are priced at
$15.
Tickets are available at Knightsbridge
through Saturday, at the Art House during
the first Friday Art Walk tomorrow and at the
gate of Oakwood Cemetery beginning at
noon on theSunday of the tour.
Refreshments will be available for pur-
chase at the Northville Art House, which is
next to the cemetery during the event.

Church hosts card party, luncheon
A breast cancer awareness luncheon and
card party is planned at SS Simon and Jude
Church from1-4 p.m. Oct. 16.
Tickets are $8 per person and there will
be table anddoor prizes and a 50-50 raffle.

Senior health fair planned
The Romulus Senior Center will be the
site of a health fair from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30
p.m. Oct. 18.
The event is open to the public and health
information will be available. Several ven-
dors will be on hand to provide free health
screenings. Representatives from the MI
Café will attend to help with applications for
BridgeCards.
Senior citizens should bring proof of
income, a photo identification and proof of
residency.
In addition, raffles and prize drawings are
planned.

Speaker discusses social media
Kathy Kane from Market Insights, LLC,
will be a guest speaker at the Greater
Romulus Chamber of Commerce Business
Luncheon at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the

Seeds to be topic
Seed Collecting, Saving, and Planting will
be the topic of the meeting of the Southeast
Michigan Butterfly Association at 7 p.m. Oct.
19.
Attendees will learn how to collect seed
from butterfly plants, how to care for the
seeds for winter storage, and what to do
whenplanting themin the spring.
The meeting will take place at Nankin
Mills Nature Center, 33175 Ann Arbor Trail,
Westland, MI 48186. Parking is available on
Hines Drive or AnnArbor Trail. There is a $3
admission fee for non-members.

Fun on tap
More than 20 area youngsters will
perform in an all-youth production of
the musical Thoroughly Modern
Millie, Jr. during the weekend of Oct.
20 until Monday, Oct. 24. The pro-
duction is presented by the Spotlight
on Youth at the Village Theater at
Cherry Hill in Canton, and the per-
formers come from Canton,
Northvi l le, Plymouth, Bel levi l le,
Superior Township and Westland.
The show lasts about an hour and a
half, and the production is appropri-
ate for all ages. Shows are at 7 p.m.
Oct. 20, 21 and 22, at 2 p.m. Oct. 22
and 23 and at 10 a.m. Oct. 24. The
