unprincipled and immoral, but effective,
political players in the last several decades---
and those are considered their good quali-
ties. Opponents ran in fear that one of these
two would hit them in the head with their
pitchfork.
The late-night comedians and those silly
political analysts that want to repeat whatev-
er they've heard others say over and over
and over all seem to agree that Mr. Obama
will be a one-term president. One of them,
whose name escapes me at the moment, has
even suggested that Obama should step
aside and make Hillary Clinton the
Democratic presidential candidate. Now, if
that doesn't smack of desperation, I don't
knowwhat will.
But, on the other hand, nobody would
ever have fooled Hillary into thinking that
cooperation and negotiation would have any
successful results in the current political cir-
cus of the damned that is D.C. She's already
seen first hand just how vicious, cruel,
manipulative and just plain dirty these guys
play.
Some even say she's gotten very, very good
at those games, being in the international
arena and forced to find ways to convince
leaders of other countries to make decisions
and take actions favorable to the U.S.
Frankly, Iwouldn't be surprised.
Poor Hillary has aged about 20 years in
the past few she has served as the face of our
country abroad----and even her worst critics
have to admit that her conduct has been
impeccable, well, except for that one little
slip there in India where she almost bit that
student's head off for asking her what Bill
thought about something or other.
But, alas, Hillary has already said no. She
announced some time ago, very publicly, that
this would be her last public office and that
she had no desire to pursue her political
career any farther. So that leaves the
Democrats with the incumbent, who, if the
American persona and ideal were genuine,
should be unbeatable. He's intelligent, he's
articulate, he's soft spoken, he's controlled,
he's incredibly charismatic, he's a man of
principle and integrity, he's energetic and
he's very, very likable.
What he isn't is a bare-knuckled, manipu-
lative political schemer who will take any
action, no matter how distasteful, or close to
illegal, to accomplish his aims, to force oth-
ers to dohis bidding.
What a sad, sad commentary on the cogni-
tive ability of the voting public in our country
and the level to which our elected leaders
have sunk.
The pundits may be right about Obama,
unless, of course, the Republicans give the
nomination toPerry or Palin.
Voters may be apathetic, but even I don't
believe they are that stupid.
These accused officers destroyed the con-
fidence and trust of the public in lawenforce-
ment not only in Romulus, but across the
area and the state, People are gossiping and
criticizing police officers everywhere, paint-
ing them with the same brush as those now
defending themselves against these criminal
charges.
If they are proven guilty, if they did in fact
steal, the courts will hand out penalties and
punishments for the crimes proven in court.
But the loss of faith, of respect and of trust
in their fellow officers by the general public
is something for which there really is no
equitable penalty. In these times of such
uncertainty, such fear and such doubt, to
have the very people chargedwith protecting
our safety and right to a sense of security
charged with heinous and disgusting crimes
is an insult to lawenforcement officers every-
where.
We applaud Lambert, who has been work-
ing as diligently as Dickerson to attempt to
overcome the stigma and shame a few have
brought into the police department.
The city council members, too, apparently
understand the threat to the underpinnings
of citizen confidence in their community and
seem supportive and understanding of the
Herculean task facingDickerson.
We wish him well, and from what we've
seen so far, suspect that Lambert chose the
rightman for the job.
household pampered pets parading around
in tutus, there really is something for every-
one. The bikers are a fun group, too, there to
show off their bikes and enjoy the fall day
while contributing to aworthwhile charity.
The chili samples become available start-
ing at about 1 p.m., some earlier, and the fun
continues well into the afternoon. The good
the event does, however, lasts an entire year
and makes the difference for families and
childrenwith impaired sight.
Those who haven't attended yet have
missed out on an afternoon of music, enter-
tainment and lots of goodnatured fun.
Wewouldn'tmiss it.
