The wishes of the late Jack
Wilcox will be honored with the
installation of a new fountain in
Kellogg Park dedicated to the
memory of his parents.
The foundation Mr. Wilcox
established in 1980 prior to his
death is dedicated to benefiting
his hometown where he was
active in government and busi-
ness. His legacy included a spe-
cific benefit for a fountain dedi-
cated to the memory of his par-
ents. The foundation, now under
the direction of Dan Harriman,
has pledged $700,000 for the
installation of the new fountain
in the park, which has been
under discussion and in the
planning stage for several
months.
The proposed design was
unveiled last week at a meeting
of the Plymouth Historic District
Commission by landscape archi-
tect Marc Russell of Northville-
based Russell Design. The new
design will replace the current
50-year-old landmark which,
according to officials, has
mechanical problems, and is
part of proposed changes in the
city park.
The plan includes the instal-
lation of the new fountain at the
existing site with the same 32-
foot diameter. Water will flow
from a bronze cap to a basin and
then flowdown granite steps into
a lower basis. The 13-foot, 11-
inch high fountain would
include a 16-inch seating wall of
concrete. The current seating
wall is 24 inches.
The new fountain as pro-
posed would have 25 water jets
with 16 on the lower tier, eight in
the center and one at the top. It
also includes 156 lights in four
colors, red, blue, green and
white.
Plans include an access area
to the mechanics of the fountain
below ground level for mainte-
nance. The fountain will be sur-
rounded by landscaping and
pavers.
The fountain will include a
dedication plaque recognizing
the Wilcox family in the land-
scaping near the fountain. A trim
motif similar to that of the his-
toricWilcoxHouse located at the
corner of Union Street near the
park is also proposed.
