Saturday, July 30, to process
absenteevoterballotrequests.
“Voters applying for a state
primary absent voterballotmay
also apply for a general election
absent voter ballot using the
sameapplication form. Iencour-
age voters to consider voting by
absentvoterballotforthegeneral
election,” saidCity ofNorthville
ClerkDiannaMassa.
Whenanemergency,suchasa
sudden illness or family death,
prevents a registered voter from
goingtothepollsonElectionDay,
thatregisteredvotermayrequest
anemergencyabsentvoterballot.
The requestmust be submitted
after theregularabsentvoterbal-
lot deadline has passed (the
emergencymust havemade it
impossible tomeet thatdeadline)
and before 4 p.m. onElection
Day,sheadded.
The lastday to votebyabsent
voterballotis4p.m.Monday,Aug.
1.Theballotmustbevotedatcity
hall.
The signed and sealed absent
voterballotmustbe returned to
city hall no later than 8 p.m.
Tuesday,Aug. 2 or itwillnot be
counted,Massa explained.This
includesmilitary and overseas
ballots.Anymailed absent voter
ballot must be physically
received in the clerk's office by
thatdaterather thanpostmarked
bythatdate.
Residents ofNorthville can
request an absent voter ballot if
theymeetoneof the followingsix
statutory reasons: age 60 years
oldorolder;unable tovotewith-
outassistanceat thepolls;willbe
out of town onElectionDay; in
jailawaitingarraignmentor trial;
unable to go to thepollsdue to
religious reasonsorappointed to
workasanelectioninspectorout-
sidetheirprecinctofresidence.
Thosewho register to vote for
the first timebymailmustvote in
person at thenext election they
participate inbefore theyareeli-
gible to vote bymail,unless the
individual is 60 years or older,
disabledoroverseas.
Salute toSummer, abenefit
for Michigan Veterans, is
planned for July 29 and 30 in
downtownNorthville,hostedby
theNorthvilleCentralBusiness
Association.
The eventswill help fund
veterans' programs including
Walleye forWarriors,which
offers free fishing, food and
camaraderieamongveteransas
an expression of gratitude for
their service.The fishingpro-
vides an opportunity for social
interactionwith other veterans
whomay be facing the same
issuesofreintegratingintocivil-
ianlifeand
Music4Vets,anon-tradition-
al therapy, is an easy, effective
method of addressing emotion-
alissuesofveterans.
Therewillbe food truckson
siteandmusicbothdays,organ-
izerssaid.
Eventsplanned from10a.m.
until 9p.m. onFriday include

Sale and from 7-9 p.m. there

From 9 to 11 a.m. therewill
be a pancake breakfast in
NorthvilleSquare;from10to11
a.m. there will be a Yoga
demonstration and classwith
JulieBegoskifromGoodKarma
and from 11 a.m.untilnoon, a
Zumba classwith instructors
from Fitness Motivators is
planned.
Atnoon, children's activities
willbeginwithphotoswithpets,
amartial arts demonstration
and cookie decorating until 2
p.m.
At 2p.m.,SwingFusionwill
presentswingdancingandfrom
3-5p.m. therewillbeasummer
rock camp with Broughton
Music;from5-6p.m.theLivonia
CivicChoirwillentertainandat
5 p.m. theEagleswill serve a
benefit seafood dinner at the
NorthvilleEaglesLodge.Meals
will be servedwhile food sup-
plieslast.
