Free Concours d’elegance preview in Northville
Summertime signals the
annual Concours d'Elegance in
Michigan.
Once again this year, vintage
automobile lovers can preview
rare, antique vehicles from
noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, July
25, during the 4th Annual
Northville Concours d'Elegance
PreviewEvent.
The Downtown Northville
Development Authority has
once again partnered with
Concours d'Elegance organiza-
tion which brings the annual
event to The Inn at St. John's in
Plymouth.
The preview event in
Northville is free and will take
place on downtown streets. This
year, the preview is sponsored
by Reliable Carriers, Roush
Performance, Cadillac of Novi,
Tom Holzer Ford, Varsity
Lincoln, Davis Auto Care,
Northville Collision and
Northville Rehabilitation.
About 30 pre-war vehicles will
be on display along Main Street
between Hutton and Center
streets. The preview will also
feature a special Thunderbird
exhibit along Main Street
between Wing and Center
streets and on North Center
Street, marking the 60th
anniversary of the vehicle.
Live musical performances
by the Boogie Woogie Kid and
The Dave Bennett Quartet will
take the stage in Town Square
from noon until 1:45 p.m. and

available to-and-from down-
town Northville to St. John's

The school building is
steeped in tradition in Plymouth
and when the Plymouth-Canton
Community Schools Board of
Education made the difficult
decision to close the school, the
grassroots organization support-
ing an effort to preserve the
building and use it as a new arts
and recreation complex evolved.
Quinn said dedicating the
children's mural to the PARC
facility seemed a natural thing to
do considering the involvement
in the arts planned at the build-
ing.
The Michigan Philharmonic
will be moving into the new
PARC structure early next
month, Harless said, and several
other civic groups are consider-
ing moving to offices on the sec-
ond floor of the facility.
Committee members said they
also expect to have music, the-
ater and dance performances,
along with visual art exhibits at
the building.
When that happens, audi-
ences will be welcomed by the
sight of the latest mural complet-
ed this year by the youngest
artists at Art InThePark.
Again this year, Art In The
Park will also feature live enter-
tainment, interactive displays
and a park full of children's
activities, including junior
artists selling their creations.
Comedian John Park will
return with his comedy, juggling
and plate spinning to entertain
crowds all weekend, along with
local jazz guitarist RonHark and
the famous living mural and
chalkmural creations.
Rork stressed again the avail-
ability of the shuttle service in
roomy, air-conditioned buses
from the former Visteon parking
lot to downtownwhichwill oper-
ate continuously all weekend.
The buses, sponsored by St.
John Providence, "really are the
best way to see the event," Rork
said.
Other sponsors of Art In The
Park this year include Ford
Motor Co., Xfinity, Art Van Pure
Sleep,
Majic
Windows,
Independence Village, Renewal
by Andersen and Brackney
Chiropractic.

artists can be found in a special
section included in this edition of

Surprise, surprise
Fred and Maureen Robinson got quite a surprise June 26 when
the lawn at their Hillcrest Avenue home in Plymouth was decorat-
ed with good wishes on their 50th wedding anniversary. For the
past half century, the couple has exchanged the same greeting
card on their anniversary on which another memory is recorded in
their life story. This year, daughter, Julie Evans of Virginia, and son,
Jeff Robinson of Sag Harbor, New York, surprised their parents
with this special anniversary tribute. The couple has lived in
Plymouth for almost their entire married life and raised both their
children in the community. Fred Robinson was a volunteer fireman
in Plymouth for 25 years and taught middle school in Livonia,
while his wife taught second grade at Miller Elementary School.
Now retired, the couple travels, winters in Florida and spends time
with their grandchildren.
