Jazz concerts begin Sunday
The Jazz in the Park Summer Concert
Series will begin Sunday July 28 and con-
tinue through Aug. 30 in Kellogg Park in
downtownPlymouth.
Admission to the concerts is free and
three different jazz acts will performeach
week. Acts appearing include; Alex
Colista Quartet, Chris Rose Trio, Trio Re
Enactment, Nathan Haddock Trio, Cory
Allen Trio, Ellie Epstein Latin Trio, Gene-
n-Tonic with special guest; Nicole New,
Imari Jendayi and In The Tradition, Isis

Library has summer hours
The Inkster Public Library has new
summer hours and is now open from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and from10
a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and from
noonuntil 8 p.m. onWednesdays.
The library will be closed Fridays,
Sundays andMondays.

Straight-laced display under way
The Canton Historical Society has an
exhibit of petticoats and drawers of the
turn of the century now on displace at the
Canton Historical Museum, 1022 South
CantonCenterRoad inCanton.
The exhibit will continue through Aug.
23 from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m.
Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
onSaturdays.

Farmoffers Story Time
Maybury Farm will host Story Time at
11 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday
throughout the summer. In addition to
hearing a story about animals, children
can visit with the live farm animals at the
farmandplay at the playground.
The cost for Story Time is included
with the admission fee to the farm.
Maybury Farm is also offering Wagon
Ride Wednesdays at 11:30 and noon on
the second and fourth Wednesdays of the
month.
Admission to the farm is $2.50 per per-
son and children younger than 3 are
admitted at no cost. Wagon rides are $3
per person, those younger than 3 at no
cost.

Yo-Yo Juggling camp set
The City of Plymouth Department of
Recreation in cooperation with Duncan
Crew Toy member YoJake will be hosting
a summer Yo-yo/Juggling Camp for stu-
dents ages 8-14.
This camp will be offered from 10:30
a.m. until noon Monday-Friday, July 6-10
at the Plymouth Cultural Center.
Advanced registration is required at the

cost of the camp is $45 and City of
Plymouth residents will receive a dis-
countedprice for the camp.
At the end of the week, students can

Mideast Regional Yo-yo Contest on
Saturday, July 11 at the Plymouth Cultural
Center. Camp fee includes a free Yo-yo
and the use of juggling equipment. For

College for Kids offered
Wayne County Community College
District Western Campus in Belleville will
offer College for Kids Summer Camps for
ages 11-14 July 6 through 23.
The all inclusive three-week camp
experience includes classes in Lego
Robotics, Forensic Photography, Video
Game Design, Foreign Language
Exploration, American Sign Language,
Culinary Etiquette, Acting Workshop and
Martial Arts.
The cost per camper is $125 but does
not include lunch, which will be available
for purchase.

Basketball camp planned
Shooting Stars basketball skills camp
for boys and girls in grades 1-9 takes place
from9 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 8, 9 and 10.
The $100 fee includes instruction in
the fundamental skills of basketball, a
camp t-shirt, snack and a participation
certificate. A $25 registration fee is due at
registration. There are discounts avail-
able for siblings.

Senator sets office hours
State Sen. Patrick Colbeck and District
Manager Penny Crider will host monthly
office hours from 7-8 a.m. July 10 in
Northville at the George's Senate Coney
Island andwill be open to the public.
Colbeck will be on hand to answer
questions and respond to concerns any
residents of his district may have. No
appointment is necessary.
Colbeck represents the 7th Senate
District, which encompasses the cities of
Livonia, Northville, Plymouth andWayne,
as well as the townships of Canton,

Canton cops serve coffee
The Canton Police Department has
scheduled Coffee with a Cop from 9-11
a.m. July 17 at Village Coney Island, 47182
MichiganAve.
These on-going sessions are open to
the public and provide a unique opportu-
nity for community members to ask ques-
tions and learn more about the depart-
ment's work in Canton's neighborhoods
andbusiness districts.
The majority of contacts law enforce-
ment has with the public happen during
emergencies or stressful situations. Those
situations are not always the most effec-
tive times for relationship building.
Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers
and allows for relaxed one-on-one inter-
action. The Canton Police Department is
holding multiple sessions throughout the
community this year. If you have a busi-
ness or organization interested in hosting
a 2-hour session of Coffee with a Cop, con-

Requirements to host a 2-hour session
of Coffee with a Cop include having a
Canton location, being open to the public
andproviding coffee for attendees.
ArtAffair onMain planned
ArtAffair onMain, a presentation of the
Belleville Area Council for the Arts is
planned for Saturday, July 25 and Sunday,
July 26, along Main Street in downtown
Belleville.
Eye-catching and unique fine arts and
contemporary crafts will again be a main-
stay on Main Street. There will also be
entertainment on themain stage.
New this year, the CAF5 will be hosting
a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning
on 4th Street in front of the old Fire
Station.
Prior to the ArtAffair on Saturday
morning, the Community Assistance
Foundation will host a pancake breakfast
to benefit to civic group which serves the
less fortunate in the community.
Space camp is offered
Space Adventures, a summer camp for
children, is planned for 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
July 27 through July 31 at the Western
Campus of Wayne County Community
College District, 9555 haggerty Road in
Belleville.
There are two sessions, one for chil-
dren in grades 1 through 3 and one of stu-
dents in grades 4 through 6. The fee for
the session is $20 and children should
bring their own lunch.
Included will be hands-on activities
and experiments covering all aspects of
the solar system, eclipses, space explo-
ration, black holes and the sun.
Early registration is requested as space
is limited.
