Romulus library is open
The Romulus Public Library
will remain open during construc-
tion of the new 34th District Court
buildingwhichwill be built next to
the facility.
A portion of the library parking
lot has been fenced off and the
west entrance to the campus off of
Wayne Road is closed. Entrance to
the library is available off of
Goddard Road north and east of
the library.
Maps of the construction area
are available in the library for
patrons and the information is
available on the library website
and social media sites.
Construction is expected to be
complete around this time next
year and the parking lot will be
resurfaced after the building is
completed.

Chamber and schools on a roll
TheBelleville Area Chamber of
Commerce and the Van Buren
Public Schools Education
Foundation will host a bowling
fundraiser beginning with regis-
tration at 7 p.m. June 1 at Lodge
Lanes.
The cost is $20 per person
which includes three games of
bowling, shoe rental and pizza.
Bowling will begin at 8 p.m. and
there will be prizes for men and
women's high games, mystery
games and a 50-50 raffle.
Tickets can be purchased at the
chamber office, 248 Main St. in
Belleville.

Creek clean up planned
Plymouth Township, BOSCH,
and Friends of the Rouge are
sponsoring a cleanup of the
Tonquish Creek between Ann
Arbor Road and Joy Road from 9
a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 2.
Volunteers will be removing
trash and log jams along the creek.
Volunteers will meet at 8:30
a.m. at the Riverbank Square
Shopping Plaza, 521 Ann Arbor
Road next to Snap Fitness.
Participants should dress appro-
priately.
This project is generously spon-
sored by a grant from BOSCH and
support from Friends of the
Rouge.

City sponsors equipment sale
The City of Plymouth
Recreation Department will host
an All Sports Equipment Sale
from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday,
June 2, inside the Plymouth Ice
Arena, 525Farmer St., Plymouth.
Spots can be rented to sell
equipment for $20 for each 10 by
10-foot space. All tables, shelves,
racks etc. must be able to fit in the
10 by 10 spot. Multiple adjacent
spots canbe purchased.

Big Sisters in Nursing will host
a Men's Health and Wellness Fair

Cancer symposiumplanned
My Compassion, a federal
501c3, will present "Treating
Cancer
With
Cannabis
Symposium" from noon until 5
p.m. June 3, which is National
Cancer Survival Day. The program
will be presented at the Sheraton
Hotel Metro Airport 8000
Merriman Road Romulus,
Michigan 48174.
My Compassion is a non-profit
group established to educate the
public about the positive uses for
medical cannabis. The symposium
will provide an overviewof the use
of cannabis and its components as
a treatment for people with can-
cer-related symptoms caused by
the disease itself or its treatment.

Camp 911 planned
Plymouth City Fire Services in
cooperation with Huron Valley
Ambulance will host Camp 9-1-1, a
free two-day camp July 9 and 10.
The camp is open to children
ages 8 - 12 and will take place at
the Plymouth Cultural Center
from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each
day.
Huron Valley Ambulance
Paramedics and EMTs serve as
camp counselors and teach
campers about safety at home and
at play, first aid skills, and how to
perform CPR and use an AED.
Campers' activities include ambu-
lance tours and visiting local hos-
pital emergency departments.

Opioid use is topic
The Canton Public Safety
Department will host a public
forum on the Heroin/Opioid epi-
demic and how the crisis is
impacting the Canton Community
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday,
June 6.
The forum will take place in
the Board Room of the Canton
Administration Building, 1150 S.
Canton Center Road. Police and
Fire officials will be joined by
guest speakers from the DEA, 35th
District Court, Plymouth-Canton
Community Schools, and Growth
Works to cover the objectives of
understanding opioid addiction,
the impact of the epidemic impact
on the community and strategies
for tackling opioid issues, includ-
ing opportunities for recovery and
healing for addicts and their fami-
lies
A question and answer session
involving all speakers will con-
clude the evening.
The forum is open to anyone
interested in increasing their
knowledge and understanding of
this troubling, trending topic.
The free forum is open to the
public.
SwingDance and Victory Rally set
A vintage swing dance and vic-
tory rally is planned or 5-9 p.m.
Saturday, June 9 in downtown
Belleville at Fourth andMainSt.
Original Rosie the Riverters
will be on hand along with food
and entertainment. A pie eating
contest, cake walk, Tarot reader
and silent auction are planned
along with a classic car show, a
military vehicle parade and rides
on a 5-ton army truck.

Willow Run Rosies march in the
Fourth of July parade in
WashingtonD.C.
Joint shred day in Plymouths
The City of Plymouth and
Plymouth Township will offer a
shred day for all residents of both
communities from 9 a.m. until
noon, Saturday, June 9, at the
Plymouth Cultural Center, located
at 525Farmer.
Paper to be shredded will be
limited to five banker boxes on
each trip. Residents can make
multiple trips throughout the
morning however, the service will
only be available until the trucks
are filled. Documents can be in
paper bags or boxes when brought
for shredding. Plastic bags must be
removed from documents before
shredding.
Residents participating must
also provide proof of city or town-
ship residence using a driver's
license, voter ID card, water bill,
or property tax bill.

CoffeeWithACop Tuesday
The Inkster Police Department
will continue to host CoffeeWith A
Cop at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday
of each month at Applewood
Coney Island. The next meeting
will be June 12.
There is no agenda or speech-
es, just an opportunity to enjoy a
cup of coffee with a local police
officers, ask questions, voice con-
cerns and get to know the neigh-
borhood officers.

Attic art being sought
The Northville Art House is
now accepting donations for the
Art from the Attic sale set for July
27 and 28 inNorthvilleSquare.
The sale will benefit the Art
House anddonations of old frames
and unwanted art pieces are being
sought.
Funding will benefit Art House
programs including free exhibits,
After School Art, scholarships and
art awards.
Items can be dropped off dur-
ing normal business hours, noon
until 5 p.m. Tuesday through
Friday and noon until 4 p.m.
Saturday.
Legends fundraiser set
It may be May, but the
Basketball Legends of Inkster are
already thinking about summer
camps for students.
The group, which annually pro-
vides food and toys for 100 Inkster
families during the holiday season,
also hosts basketball clinics and
camps for students during the
summer will host the first
fundraiser of the year from 4-10
p.m. Wednesday, June 13 at Texas
Roadhouse.
That evening, 10 percent of all
total food purchasedwill be donat-
ed to the Inkster group to help
fund the upcoming basketball
camps.
