Rouge volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. until
noon this Saturday, May 20, for Rouge
Rescue 2017.
City of Plymouth residents have joined in
the effort to clean up the Rouge River
Watershed.
Volunteers will meet at Tonquish Creek
Manor, 1160 Sheridan, Plymouth, one block
north of AnnArbor Trail, betweenMcKinley
and Joel before 9 a.m. The crews will be
cleaning up Tonquish Creek in the City of
Plymouth, including picking up trash and
debris, invasive species removal, planting
native plants, andmarking stormdrains.
Gloves, t-shirts and trash bags will be
available to all participants. Lunch will be
provided at noon for all volunteers.

Library hostsmusicians
Merryl Monard and Celia Van Den
Bogert from Chamber Music Michigan will
be performing a classical music programon
flute and harp from 1-3 p.m. this Saturday,
May 20 at theRomulus PublicLibrary.
Audiences can hear masterworks of the
past as well as contemporary compositions
by living composers.

Bus service available
Inkster residents who want to take part
in programs at the Dozier Recreation
Complex in the city now have a shuttle bus
available for transportation.
The Inkster Commission on Aging offers
the service which can be requested by
phone at (734) 728-7530.
The service is available to all senior citi-
zenswho reside in Inkster.
Drawn to theNight tomorrow
Drawn to theNight, an event for artists, is
planned from 7-9 p.m. tomorrow at the
Plymouth Community Arts Council, 774
NorthSheldonRoad inPlymouth.
Participants should bring their own art
supplies for the uninstructed, open life
drawing event. The model and set will be
inspired by The Card Players by Paul
Cezanne.
Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for

Free bulk trash day set
Westland is offering a free Bulk Drop Off
event at the Department of Public Services
yard this Saturday, May 20.
Resident can bring the large items, along
with proof of residency, to the yard, located
at 37137Marquette.
Residents who need assistance to partici-
pate in this program because of age or a
physical disability can call Mayor William

arrangements.
This is a residential program. No com-
mercial buildingmaterialswill be accepted.
FarmersMarket is open
The Westland Farmers Market will open
today and be open from 3-7 p.m. every
Thursday throughOct. 13.
The market takes place at 1901 N.
Carlson, south of Ford Road in Central City
Park. Vendors will be selling produce,
plants, fresh foods and crafts. There is live
music every week and EBT cards are
accepted.

Farmersmarket nowopen
The Canton Farmers Market opened last
week and will be open from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. every Sunday through Oct. 12 (closed
July 2) at Preservation Park, located at 500

Dog owners and their pets are invited to
Bark in the Park from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Participants, along with their four-legged

give-a-ways from local pet supply and serv-
ice vendors. Bothmembers of the Dog Park
and non-members are encouraged to let
their dogs experience this off-leashdog park
during this free event.
This is an opportunity to learn about the
Canton Dog Park, meet other pet owners,
and give dogs the opportunity to become
more socialized. Non-dog park members
must show proof of up-to-date vaccination
for rabies and distemper, signed by an
accredited veterinarian.

A free lunch for seniors will take place at
11 a.m. May 24 at Salem National Lutheran
Church inWestland.
The lunch is free to all seniors. The

Balance classes offered
A Matter of Balance, an award-winning
program designed to reduce the fear of
falling and increase activity levels among
older adults will be available at no cost in
Inkster.
The free classes will take place from 1-3
p.m. Wednesdays, May 24 and June 7 and 14
at the Dozier Recreation Center, 2025
Middlebelt Road in Inkster.
Those who have concerns about falling
can register the Inkster Commission on

Transportation for senior citizens in Inkster
will be available on request.

Cancel Monday to appear
The Friday night Music in the Air
Concert series in Plymouth will begin at 7
p.m. Friday, May 26 with the group, Cancel
Monday performing Top 40 hits. Concerts
take place 14 Fridays throughout the sum-
mer, beginning in May and ending the
Friday beforeLaborDay.
There will be no concert July 8 during
Art in theParkweekend.
All concerts take place in Kellogg Park
and are free.
Audiences should arrive early to set up
personal blankets and chairs for seating.
Memorial Day parade planned
The annual Wayne Westland Memorial
Day parade is planned for 1 p.m. May 28
beginning at the Wayne Ford Civic League
parking lot. The parade will travel down
Wayne Road to the Veterans' Memorial at

Plymouth parade salutes veterans
The PlymouthMemorial Day Parade will
march upMain Street beginning at 9 a.m. on
Monday, May 29.
The parade will conclude at Veterans
Park at Main and Church streets with a spe-
cial programsaluting veterans.

AARP Smart Drivers Program is offering
a refresher drivers' education course from
9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31

The fee for AARP members is $15, all
others, $20.
The course offers new rules of the road
for seniors along with research-based driv-
ing strategies to help stay safe behind the
wheel.
