Legislator hosts coffee hours
State Rep. Dian Slavens (D-Canton) will
host coffee hours from8-9 a.m. May 7 andMay
21 at the Belleville Charhouse, 524 Main St. in
Belleville and from 5-6 p.m. the same days at
the Daydream Café, 47192 Michigan Ave. in
Canton.
Slavens hosts regular coffee hours and
town hall meetings throughout Canton
Township, Belleville and Van Buren
Township. She can also be contacted toll free

DianSlavens@house.mi.gov with any ques-
tions or concerns. Residents also can sign up
for Slavens' e-newsletter and take her brief
community survey by visiting her website at

Caregiving conferences slated
The 11th Annual Partners in Family
Caregiving Conferences provides the informa-
tion and resources caregivers need to take
care of both themselves and their care recipi-
ents. Events will feature informational dis-
plays, workshops, giveaways and a variety of
professionals to help caregivers find the infor-
mation and resources they need.
Free health and hearing screenings will be
provided throughout the conferences. The
conferences are free to attend and are will
take place throughout Wayne County, includ-
ingCantonTownship and Inkster.
Conferences have been scheduled from
5:50-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at Summit on the
Park. 46000 Summit Parkway inCanton.
All events are free, however, those interest-
ed in attending are asked to pre-register by
calling (734) 246-2280 ext. 156 for the confer-
ence of their choice. Caregivers and their
adult care recipients arewelcome to attend.
Chamber meeting planned
The Inkster Chamber of Commerce will
host the general membership meeting from
6:30 until 8 p.m. May 8 at the Booker Dozier
Recreation Complex, 2025 Middlebelt Road
in Inkster.
The speaker at the meeting will be
Director of Inkster Planning and Economic
DevelopmentMarkLloyd.
His topic will be business retention, attrac-
tion and expansion. Light refreshments will
be served.

Township hall clean up planned
The Northville Township Beautification
Commission is in need of volunteers for the
Spring Garden Clean up planned at
Northville Township Hall from 9 a.m. until
noon onMay 5.
The building is located at 44405 Six Mile
Road inNorthville.
Cinco deMayoDinner planed
The Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue
group is planning the fifth Annual Cinco de
MayoDinner as a fundraiser for the Belleville
facility
This year the event will take place at the
Ypsilanti Eagles Hall, 2935 Holmes Road in
Ypsilanti. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and
dinnerwill be served at 6 onMay 5.
Tickets are $25 per person and include the
buffet of Mexican dishes, desserts, non-alco-
holic beverages and musical entertainment.
There will also be a cash bar and several raf-
fle prizes.

Church serves chicken dinner
WillowUnitedMethodist Churchwill serve
a Chicken Supper beginning at 5 p.m. May 9.
Carryout servicewill begin at 4:30 p.m.
Included in the suppers, priced at $9 for
adults and $5 for children 12 and younger, is
fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans,
biscuits and gravy, dinner rolls, dessert, cof-
fee, hot tea ormilk.

Art walk planned inWayne
A docent from the Detroit Institute of Arts
will discuss the Inside/Out exhibits in Wayne
beginning at 6:30 p.m. May 10 at the Wayne
Library. Weather permitting, a tour of the
exhibits in the citywill follow.

Free Day at the DIA for Wayne residents
will be May 20. Residents need only show
proof of city residency to receive four free
passes to the museum at no cost valid that
Sunday.
