DNA testing is topic
Northville Genealogical Society mem-
bers and guests will meet beginning at 1:15
p.m. Sunday, April 8 at the Northville
District Library located at 212West Cady St.
in Northville. The roundtable discussion,
“How DNA Testing Advanced Your
Research” will begin at 1:15 p.m. A busi-
ness meeting is planned for 2:30 p.m. which
is open to the public, followed by Dr. James
Sims discussing the Topic “I have a DNA
result, what comes next? at 3 p.m
Sims often speaks on the topic of genetic
genealogy in themetro Detroit area. He has
more than 15 years of experience in genetic
genealogy. This talk focuses on the effective
use of DNA testing vendor web sites and
autosomal DNAmatching.
The meeting is open to the public at no
charge.
Legislators host CoffeeHour
Wayne County Commissioner Glenn S.
Anderson will be hosting a Coffee Hour in
Inkster with State Sen. David Knezek from
noonuntil 1 p.m. onMonday, April 9.
The Coffee Hour will take place at the

Chambers host QuickBbooksworkshop
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce, the Wayne Chamber of
Commerce and the Westland Chamber of
Commerce have joined forces to present a
QuickBooks Workshop from noon until 1:30
p.m. Monday, April 9 at the Ted Scott
Campus of Wayne County Community
College, 9555HaggertyRoad inBelleville.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and
lunchwill be provided.
This is a free workshop for chamber
members that has been created for anyone
who wants to learn the best way to maneu-
ver through the setup and continued use of
QuickBooks.

Lawmaker hosts local hours
State Rep. Jeff Noble will host an open

CoffeeWithACop Tuesday
The Inkster Police Department will con-
tinue to host Coffee With A Cop at 10 a.m.
the second Tuesday of each month at
ApplewoodConey Island.
There is no agenda or speeches, just an
opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee with a
local police officer, ask questions, voice con-
cerns and get to know the neighborhood
officers.

Spring Fashion Showset
The Belleville Area Women's Club will
present the 2018 Spring Fashion Show
beginningwith cocktails at 6 p.m. April 11 at
Woodlands of Van Buren. Dinner will be
served at 7 p.m. and the fashion show will
start at 8 p.m.
Fashions will be provided by Dress Barn
and all proceeds will be used to benefit the
community and education fund of the
group.

Club hosts square dance
Canton Newcomers and Neighbors, the
largest all-volunteer women's social club
serving the Canton area, will host a Square
DanceFundraiser from6-9 p.m. Wednesday,
April 11 at the Elks Club located at 41700
AnnArborRoad inPlymouth.
The event is a fundraiser for the Journey
to Housing, a non-profit organization that
enables local homeless families to obtain
and keephousing.
Dancing will begin at 7 p.m. and the
caller will be Richard Maurer. The evening
will also include a silent auction and a raf-
fle.Tickets, priced at $10 per person or $7
for club members, will be available at the
door.
Canton Newcomers and Neighbors is a
non-profit organization managed complete-
ly by volunteers. Membership is open to all
women regardless of how long they have
resided in the Canton area, allowing them
to meet and make new friends and take an
active social, charitable, and civic interest
in their community.
PhotographyClub tomeet
Members of the only 3D photography
club in Michigan will meet from 7 until 9:30
p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Livonia
Civic Park Senior Center, 15218 Farmington
Road, just southof FiveMileRoad.
The program for the evening will be a
special presentation by George Themelis
(“Dr. T”) on taking 3D pictures using a regu-
lar 2D camera. After a refreshment break,
the monthly 3D image competition is
planned.

Willow United Methodist Church will
serve a Chicken Supper from 5 p.m. until

Casting call
Inspire Theater has scheduled auditions
for the upcoming production of Yankee
DoodleDandy: Song andDanceMan.
Singers and non-singers, ages 13-70 are
being sought for the cast. Auditions are
planned from6:30 until 9 p.m. on both April
12 and 13 at the Westland Center for the

The production will take place Fridays
and Saturdays June 15 through 30 with

The Plymouth Canton United Way
Annual Meeting and Awards Breakfast is

finances and programs of the organization,
to recognize key contributors and hand out

Police present Pucks for Pets
The Romulus Police Department is
sponsoring Pucks for Pets, a charity hockey
game between the Romulus Police
Department and the Detroit Red Wings
Alumni players at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14.
The game will take place at the Taylor
Sportsplex, 13333TelegraphRoad inTaylor.
Presale tickets are priced at $10 and
tickets sold at the doorwill cost $15.
All proceeds from the game will be used
to support both the Romulus Animal
Shelter which serves the communities of
Romulus, Van Buren Township, Inkster,
GardenCity and theTaylor Animal Shelter.

Cemetery Board serves spaghetti
The Romulus Memorial Cemetery
Board will host a spaghetti dinner fundrais-

AMedal of Honor winner in the commu-
nity has never had his Medal of Honor
engraved on his government-issued head-
stone. The medal was issued to Charles
Cawetzka in 1902 by President Theodore
Roosevelt for his service in the Phillipine
AmericanWar in 1900.
Donations will help with the installation
of a new headstone with the Meal of Honor
engraved.
The cost of the dinner is $10 and the

the headstone in placed on Mr. Cawetzka's
grave.
