HazardousWasteDay set
Wayne County residents can dispose of
household hazardous waste at a collection
planned for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April
14, at the Romulus City Hall, 11111 Wayne
Road, northof GoddardRoad.
The event is sponsored by the Wayne
County Department of Public Services' Land
ResourceManagement Division.
A variety of household chemicals will be
accepted for proper disposal, including
household paints, stains, floor care items,
furniture polish, bathroom cleaners, lawn
and garden chemicals, antifreeze, pharma-
ceutical waste, electronics andmore.
Only household products from Wayne
County residents will be accepted. For a

American Songbook returns
Six vocalists will be crooning the classic
standards of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,
Nat King Cole, EllaFitzgerald, SammyDavis,
Jr., Peggy Lee, Etta James and others at 8
p.m. April 14 at the Theater at Cherry Hill in
CantonTownship.
The show, A Salute to the Great American
Songbook was a great success at the same
venue each of the last two years, according to
producerKevinBrazell, aCanton resident.
Tickets for the show are $20 with a $5 dis-
count for senior citizens, children 14 and
younger and groups of 15 or more. Tickets

Boating classes begin
The City of Plymouth Department of
Parks and Recreation in cooperation with
the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be host-
ing the new, updated "About Boating Safely"
class for students ages 12 andup.
The class will be offered 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
on Saturday, April 14 at the Plymouth
Cultural Center. Advanced registration is
required at the Parks and Recreation Office
or on-line at www.ci.plymouth.mi.us. The
cost of the class is $80whichwill be discount-
ed for City of Plymouth residents.
The course includes the major topics of
Boating Laws, Personal Safety Equipment,
Safe Boat Handling, Navigation, Boating
Problems, Trailering, Storing and Protecting
a Boat, Hunting and Fishing, and
Waterskiing and River Boating. A Course
Certificate, whichmay qualify the student for
reduced boat insurance rates, will be issued
upon successful completion of the course.

Church sponsors bingo
St. Aloysius Parish in Romulus is sponsor-

MadHatter Tea served
The annual Mad Hatter Tea is planned
from 2-4 p.m. April 15 at the Plymouth
Historical Museum. The event has become
well-known for the displays of hats chosen by
women in attendance.
This year, the program will be Contain
Yourself: Container Gardening Basics, pre-
sented by Sue Paulin, a Master Gardener in
northwest Illinois.

A grief support group for those who have
lost a spouse or partner will begin with the
first of sixweekly sessions at 11 a.m. Tuesday,

College trust meeting set
College savings experts from theMichigan
Education Trust (MET) will be available at
the Plymouth Library from 11 a.m. until 7
p.m. Tuesday, April 17.
The representativeswill answer questions
and help parents, grandparents and other
through the process of purchasing a MET
contract.
Purchasers will need Social Security
numbers for themselves, the contract benefi-
ciary and any third party named on the con-
tract. The usual $25 processing fee will be
waived for thosewho enroll at the session.

Back on the farm
Maybury Farm in Northville opened for the 2012 season this week and visitors could
meet the new arrivals in the barns. Many new births are expected at the farm through
May. School tours are available daily and the farm is also available for birthday parties.
Farm Day is planned for May 5, which will include sheep shearing, live music and other
entertainment. The farm will be open from noon until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through
Sundays, weather permitting. It will be closed Easter Sunday. The farm is located past
