Van Buren Township Police are still seek-
ing information about a shooting that left a
Detroitmanhospitalized last week.
Police responded to a report of a shooting
near the Hidden Cove Apartments at about
9:56 p.m. March 2. Responding officers found
Larry Cornelius Williams suffering from gun-
shot wounds to his chest, forearmand back in
the 11000 block of Belleville Road, according
to police reports. Williams, 20, was immedi-
ately transported by Huron Valley
Ambulance to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in
AnnArbor.
Williams, 20, told officers he was visiting
with a cousin and while the pair was outside
Hidden Cove Apartments, they were
approached by four masked men who imme-
diately began shooting at them. Williams and
his cousin, who was uninjured in the inci-
dent, ran to a nearby house and called police.
Williams, according to police reports, told the
responding officers he had no idea why any-
one would be shooting at him and that he
could not identify his assailants as they were
all wearingmasks.
During the investigation, police inter-
viewed an 18-year-old woman who lives in
the 46000 block in the apartment complex.
She told officers that while she was in the
shower, four masked men brandishing
weapons kicked open the door to her apart-
ment, entered her bathroom and demanded
to knowwhereWilliamswas.
When the four determined that Williams
was not in the apartment, they left, the
woman toldpolice.
Police suspect the four then encountered
Williams and his cousin outside the building
and began shooting. Police said they do not
believe that robbery was a motive in the
shooting or home invasion.
Anyone with information about the inci-
dent is asked to call the Van Buren Township
Police at (734) 699-8930.
How could the annual visit of a 6-foot
Easter Bunny cause any controversy in city
hall?
Just ask the Belleville City Council mem-
bers who were asked to decide on allowing
the sale of hot chocolate and baked goods at
Victory Station during the visit of the bunny
at Victory Park from noon until 4 p.m. April
7.
The visit of the bunny is sponsored by the
Central Business Community, a group that
intended the event to be totally free to resi-
dents. This year, even photographs with the
bunny will be at no charge, according to Bill
Wolters of the business group. He told coun-
cil members that the groupwanted the event
to remain totally without cost for the public,
and an ongoing fundraiser would raise alter
the nature of the event.
Permission for the sale was requested by
the Belleville Area Council for the Arts.
President Kay Atkins said the group wanted
to sell items as a fundraiser to help in the
purchase of Main Street propertywhenmak-
ing the request of the council.
According to DPS Director Keith Boc,
Victory Station might have to be used for the
bunny if the weather turned inclement on
the day of the visit.
The council members agreed that the
park had been approved for the Flop E.
Bunny visit of the Central Business
Community prior to the request fromthe arts
group and that the business owners had con-
trol of the park and the station during the
specified times.
The council did not vote on a motion to
deny the arts commission request, which
died for a lack of support, thereby leaving it
unacteduponby the city council.
