Six people were injured and one
remains in critical condition after a fire
destroyed one building unit at the
Cherry Hill Club apartments last
Saturday.
Ikster fire chief Chuck Hubbard said
the emergency call was received at 11:51
p.m. andwhen firefighters arrived on the
scene at Cherry Hill and Henry Ruff
roads, they could see heavy smoke com-
ing from the second and third stories of
one of the buildings which comprise the
apartment complex.
Residents were attempting to escape
the second and third floors of the build-
ing, Hubbard said, some jumping and
one using a bed sheet as a means of
climbing out of the burning unit.
Of the six people injured, one was air-
lifted to a critical care unit, officials said.
Officials estimated that there were about
12 people in the building at the time of
the blaze including two small children.
The displaced residents were temporari-
ly housed in other vacant units at the
complex, Hubbard said.
Fire departments from Westland,
Wayne, Garden City, Metro Airport and
DearbornHeightswere on the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under
investigation, Hubbard said. The blaze
completely destroyed the three-story
building and firefighters were on the
scene until 4 a.m. Sunday, he added.
companies come toRomulus to offer jobs
and opportunities andupgrade the build-
ings in our city,” Council President John
Barden told the Daehan representatives.
“These jobs will be good for our commu-
nity, along with the money you're putting
into the building. We're glad that you've
come to Romulus and we hope you'll be
here a long time.”
