Some campers in Canton Township will
have a few extra supplies this year, thanks
to theCorvetteLegends Club.
Club members donated $1,200 from
their 12th Annual Corvettes at the Summit
car show which took place last July to
Camp A.B.L.E., a state-licensed summer
camp operated by Canton Leisure
Services. The camp is specifically
designed for children ages 8 to 14 with dis-
abilities.
“We couldn't be more appreciative of
the Corvette Legends Club's generous deci-
sion to donate funds from their summer
car show to Camp A.B.L.E.,” said Jennifer
Girard, recreation specialist. “Providing a
traditional summer camp experience with
adaptions that keep activities fun and
inclusive, despite thewide range of disabil-
ities that often challenge our campers, isn't
always easy, but it is alwaysworth it for us.”
Camp A.B.L.E., which stands for
Achieve, Believe, Learn andExperience, is
one of several activities and services
offered by the township therapeutic recre-
ation program. Therapeutic recreation
offers year-round program opportunities,
socialization and support for individuals
with disabilities of all ages residing in
WesternWayneCounty.
The camp has been in operation for
more than 17 summers,. Participants take
part in a variety of activities throughout the
day, interacting with their peers, enhanc-
ing social skills, gross and fine motor skills,
and gaining independence, according to
Girard. Camp A.B.L.E. offers three field
trips per week with another two days of
specially planned activities at the camp
site, and swimming at The Summit
Aquatics Center.
Corvette Legends is a small club of
Corvette enthusiasts from the Metro
Detroit area who gather for activities
including social events, car shows, cruise
nights, color tours and trips. Proceeds
fromtheir events are donated to local char-
ities.
Corvette Legends Club will host the
13th Annual Corvettes at the Summit car
show on July 8, in Heritage Park, located
behind the Canton Administration
Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road.
This year the event will feature food,
music, prizes and will be the first in the
country to have a C7 Corvette on display.
Funds raised during the event this year
will also be donated to Camp A.B.L.E. For
