Swimming sessions available
Registration for the winter session of
swimming sessions at the Plymouth Arts
and Recreation Complex (PARC) is now
under way and will continue through
Feb. 26. Registration will be closed
(online and at the office) Feb. 15-19 and
will re-openFeb.20.
The pool will be closed Feb. 13
through 20 to complete updates. Visit

PARC aquatics program is a swim pro-
gram dedicated to providing a quality
and price friendly aquatics program to all
ages offering a variety of swim programs
to fit the needs of beginners, recreational,
and competitive swimmers. Classes are
taught by certified staffmembers.
Soccer registration is under way
Plymouth spring soccer registration
will take place during the entiremonth of
January at the recreation office from
11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through
Friday on online 24/7. Last day of regis-
tration is Jan. 31 and the last day of in-
office registration is Jan. 29.

Hot Reads for ColdNights
The Adult Winter Reading Program
will be under way at the Romulus
CommunityLibrary throughMarch 30.
Readers should register at the front
desk to receive a reading log and record
each book read by March 30 when a
reception including food, hot cocoa and
prize drawingswill take place at 6:30 p.m.

Citizens Academy accepting students
The Romulus Citizens' Academy will
start on Feb. 2 and applications are now
available. The academy is a free 15-week
course that highlights various services
provided by the police and fire depart-
ments, from SWAT team demonstrations
to the Jaws of Life and crime scene inves-
tigation.
The class is free, but limited to 25 par-
ticipants. Applications and additional

This year, the sessions will take place
from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays from
Feb. 2 though May 17, according to city
officials.
All applicants must complete a pre-
screening interview prior to acceptance
into the classes.
Bricks for sale
Memorial bricks to be installed at the
veteran's memorial in the City of
Romulus are for sale, to honor those who
have served in the armed services of our
country.
Bricks on the veteran's wall are priced
at $125 with two lines of text and bricks
on the walkway with two lines are $75.
Larger size walkway bricks are available
for $100 and include four lines of text.

ed at the treasurer's office in Romulus

Count Me In storytime continues
The Canton Library is offering
Storytime for kids with special needs,
Count Me In, at 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The
Storytimes are designed for young chil-
dren with developmental delays and dis-
abilities. The programs are funded by the
DollarGeneral LiteracyFoundation.
Programs are planned for Feb. 13,
March 12, April 23, May 21 and June 18 at
the Canton Public Library, 1200 South
CantonCenterRoad.

Butterflies are topic
Pollinator Preservation Strategies for
the Home Garden will be the topic at the
7 p.m. Jan. 29 meeting of the Southeast
Michigan Butterfly Association at the

University Extension, will be speaking on
pollinator preservation strategies for

Inspire Theatre presents lady pirates
Inspire Theater will present The Lady
Pirates of Captain Bree weekends from
Jan. 29 through Feb. 14 at the Westland
Center for the Arts, 33455WarrenRoad in
Westland.
The play features the crew of the Kala
Mae in their swashbuckling musical tale
of Captain Bree and her lady pirates
roaming the Seven Seas in search of
adventure, love and laughter.

Teen reading programplanned
The Romulus Public Library Teen
Winter Reading Program will take place
throughMarch 3 for ages 12 through 17.
Teens can read and collect prizes.

Health filmhearings set
A video scheduled to be used in repro-
ductive health classes for fourth-grade
girls will be the subject of two public
hearings for parents of Northville stu-
dents.
Members of the Northville Public
Schools Board of Education have sched-
uled the public meetings to allow parents
and community members to comment on
a proposed revision to the instructional
DVD used in the fourth-grade reproduc-
tivehealth lesson for female students
A second hearing is planned during
the regular meeting of the members of
the board of education beginning at 7
p.m. Feb. 9, with a preview opportunity

The Romulus Community Library is
hosting a writing club for teens to share
creativity.

Literacy tutors sought
The Romulus Community Library is
seeking tutors for the adult literacy pro-
gram. Volunteers need only to be able to
read and write English fluently, enjoy
reading and enjoy helping others.

Battle of theBooks is on
Teams have until tomorrow, Jan. 29 to
register for the Battle of the Books at
NorthvilleDistrict Library.
The "battle" is a reading program for
6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Teams of
two to six students read from a set of
seven books and compete to answer ques-
tions based on those books during the
final competition at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at
NorthvilleHighSchool.

DreamCreatures on exhibit
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill will
present "Dream Creatures," a mixed
media solo exhibition featuring theworks
of Took Gallagher through Jan. 31, in the
Gallery@VT.
Displayed works include collages,
plaster cloth sculptures, and hand sewn
items turn into dreamlike creatures
based on the images the artist has seen
emerge from the layers of paper, paint,
and cloth that wereused inher pieces.
This multi-media art exhibit at the
Gallery@VT is free and open to the pub-
lic from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday -
Friday and during public performances
at the theater. The Gallery@VT is closed
onholidays.
