Residents of several subdivisions in
Canton Township may have noticed an
increased presence of patrol cars on their
neighborhood streets recently.
According to Special Services Lt. Craig
Wilsher with the Canton Police, thefts
from garages in local neighborhoods have
prompted the increased community
patrols.
“Thieves are using open and unlocked
garages as an opportunity to steal basical-
ly anything of worth they can walk away
with,” saidWilsher. “
During the past two months, thefts of
items from garages in subdivisions have
included items such as snow blowers, leaf
blowers, power tools, power washers, gen-
erators, and even tires, Wilsher said and
the thefts are not limited to any particular
time of day. Thefts have taken place
throughout the day: morning, afternoon
and evening.
“The best way to avoid becoming a vic-
tim is to close and lock your garage and
sideutility doors,”Wilsher added.
Officers in marked and unmarked
vehicles are now patrolling residential
neighborhoods, and in some high activity
areas, and are even notifying residents to
close their garage doors.
Wilsher urged residents who observe
suspicious activity in their neighborhoods
to contact the Canton Police Department
at (734) 394-5400.
