Water rates increase
in township tomorrow

Water rates for Northville Township resi-
dents will increase by 5 percent, beginning
tomorrow.
Water rates will increase to $5.19 per
1,000 gallons used and sewer costs will be
$.82 per 1,000 gallons of usage. The rate
increase was adopted by the Northville
Township Board of Trustees last month in
an effort to ensure a healthy reserve in the
fundbalance.
Thomas Cesari told the board members
that this 5 percent increase would keep the
fund balance at a minimum of $1.5 million
during the next 9 or 10 years.
Cesari said that the Detroit Water and
Sewerage Department will increase rates as
they need a 4 percent increase in revenue.
That increase will also affect township
costs, although the official rate increase
amount has not been announcedbyDetroit.
The boardmembers also approved a vari-
ance to the current contract with Detroit
reflecting the decrease in water usage in the
townshipper day andduring peak hours.
Cesari said that the decrease in maxi-
mum daily use was impacted by the new
water tower and nighttime lawn watering
reduced the peak hour use.

‘In plain sight’
Art House sets January exhibit
The Northville Art House will present
an exhibit by artist Patricia Candor:
Hiding in Plain Sight from Jan. 9 through
Jan. 26.
As a teenager, Candor had a caricature
of herself painted at the local mall. She
asked the artist to "please" make her nose
smaller. He did, her teenage self loved the
result, but over time she began to ques-
tion the choice. Today she asks, "Why did I
feel the need to hidewhat was so obvious-
ly inplain sight?"
That one caricature -- and Candor's
contemplation of it -- became the first step
toward a lifetime of exploration of the self
and its internal and external imagery.
With "Patricia Candor: Hiding in Plain
Sight," the Northville Art House will pres-
ent the personal and creative evolution of
an artist from1978 through the present.
Candor is a long-time adjunct profes-
sor at the College for Creative Studies in
Detroit and at Lawrence Technological
College. The show is organized by Jeff
Cancelosi.
An opening reception is planned for 6-
9 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Northville Art House,
215W. Cady St.
The showwill continue through Jan. 26
during the Art House gallery hours, 1-5
p.m.Wednesdays throughSaturdays.
