is Maybury Farm, located on Eight Mile Road just past the Northville community in January of 2003 when the
state park in Northville. Department of Natural Resources asked the Northville
Community Foundation if the organization, then under the
direction of Shari Peters, would consider assuming opera-
tion of Maybury Farm. The DNR had closed the farm in
October of 2002 during an effort to divest the state of all
extracurricular facilities.
This request was taken to the Northville Community
Foundation Board of Directors and unanimously approved.
Negotiations began in January 2003 and a month later, in
mid-February, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed the
barns, animals, and equipment - the farm was a total loss.
Adding to the tragedy, there were no insurance dollars to
rebuild. The task of rebuilding the farm was enormous.
