Learning curve
Student carvers will once again vie for championship
Jeff Lao is counting on Mother
Nature this year.
Lao, an adjunct professor in the
culinary arts program at Henry Ford
Community College, won the Dueling
Chainsaws competition as an individ-
ual last year and his team of student
carvers also won the competition last
year.
“The warm temperatures last year
were melting the ice nearly as fast as
we could carve it,” Lao said, “so we
are hoping for better weather this
year.”
The carving competitions are
sponsored by Genisys Credit Union
which has been serving the Plymouth
community for 30 years. The credit
union has sponsored the carving com-
petition for about five years.
Each year, the college teamcarvers
a large display off Main Street in the
Park. This year, Lao said, they have
decided on a Pokemon theme for the
