The artwork on the cover of the program for the
21st Pumpkin Festival in Romulus was created by
Carolina Cortes, a 15-year-old Romulus resident who
attends JohnGlennHighSchool.
Her work was chosen for the cover by members of
the Romulus Arts Council and she was awarded first-
place honors and a $200 cash prize. The cash awards
were fundedby theLeoD. andEvaRoach family.
Every year, the arts council members sponsor the
contest for residents from pre-school through 12th
grade. The art is submitted to city hall and the win-
nerswork framed anddisplayed at the festival.
Second place honors and a $150 cash prize this
year were awarded to 13-year-old Sarah Scott. Third
place artwork award went to Susanna Scott, 16, who
was awarded a $100 cash prize. Honorable mentions
and $50 prizes went to Sydney O'Connor, 15, and
Mercy Scott,
