Wallace said she decided to give
her daughters the opportunity to
appear in the parade two years ago.
“They are both very active in the
community,” Wallace said, “and now
they are taking turns being Lady
Liberty in the parade.” Amy Wallace,
36, took on the task two years ago and
will do the honors again this year. Her
sister, Kelly Wallace, 34, rode in the
parade last year.
This year, Lady Liberty will be rid-
ing in the brand new Buick Cascada
convertible, the latest in a series of
vehicles to transport Lady Liberty dur-
ing the past years.
“It's a beautiful car,”Wallace said.
All three women work at MB
Financial Bank in Ann Arbor, the
sponsors of the welcome bottles of
water handed out to participants as
they finish the parade route.
“The water is very welcome. It gets
hot,” Wallace said. That heat was one
reason Lady Liberty's polyester dress
was changed to all-cotton fabric
recently, while her crown and scepter
remain the original Styrofoam,
sequins and pipe cleaner designs from
decades ago.
The costume is stored in a closet in
theirNorthville home until it is time to
join the parade every year.
“We love it,”Wallace said.
