CandyCornContest continues
Those 18 and younger have until Nov.
30 to guess how many candy corn pieces
are in the jar at the Romulus Public
Library.
Therewill be only onewinner whowill
take home the jar and the candy by guess-
ing closest to the exact number of candies
in the container. If more than one entry
has the correct number, library staffmem-
bers will randomly select a winner from
those entries.
The winner will be contacted the first
week of December and will have one
week to collect the prize.

Free balanceworkshops offered
A free award-winning workshop
designed to manage falls and increase
activity levels for seniors will be offered
from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Mondays and
Wednesdays through Dec. 5. There will
be no class onNov. 23.
The classes are beneficial for those
concerned about falls, interested in
improving balance, flexibility and
strength. TheMatter of Balanceworkshop
is also beneficial for individuals who have
fallen in the past and who restricts their
activities because of falling concerns.

All sessions take place at the HYPE

Person of the Year sought
The Romulus Chamber of Commerce
is now accepting nominations for the 2017
Romulus Person of theYear.
Completed forms, available at the
chamber website, must be returned to the
chamber office by 4 p.m. Dec. 16. The

200, Romulus, Mi 48174.
Later nominations will not be consid-
ered.
A committee will review the nomina-
tions and make the selection of the win-
ning candidate. This is the 32nd year for
the award in the city.

Library sells used books
Friends of the William P. Faust Library
inWestland are planning theWinter Used
BookSale.
The event will begin with a preview
sale for members of the Friends of the
Library from3-6 p.m. Nov. 17.
The public sale will take place from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19. Sunday,
Nov. 20 will be bag day when an entire
bag of books, CDs, DVDs will be priced at
$4.

The Romulus Public Library offers
interactive Parent/Child Story Time for
children 4 and younger and parents at

Center.

Warmhats needed
Plymouth Community United Way
(PCUW) is looking for community mem-
bers to donate new, warmwinter items for
the Hats for the Homeless drive which
will continue through the month of
December.
Donors are asked to drop off new hats,
mittens, gloves, scarves, blankets, and
socks at Plymouth Community United
Way, 960 W. Ann Arbor Trail, Suite 2,
Plymouth, during business hours 7:45 a.m.
until 4:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and
from 7:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Friday.
All adult and children sizes arewelcome.
Plymouth Yoga Room (474 Forest,

The Leona Van Buhler, Chamber
Member of the Year, Ted Kuckelman

Seniors celebrate Thanksgiving
Romulus seniors can sign up now for
the Thanksgiving luncheon planned for
11 a.m. Nov. 24.
The dinner will include turkey, stuff-
ing, Rose's rice, mashed potatoes, green
bean casserole and cranberry sauce.
Dessert will include pies donated by the
Romulus High School Culinary Arts
Programstudents.
Entertainment will be provided by
Tom Slatton playing live music. The cost
is $5 per person and early sign-up is
encouraged. The senior center is located

Turkey Trot takes off
Work up an appetite for a good cause
Thanksgiving morning by running or
walking in Canton Leisure Services 14th
annual Turkey Trot for a Cause on
Thursday, Nov. 24.
All ages are encouraged to join in the
fight against epilepsy by taking part in
this chip-timed 5K event that will benefit
the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.
The race is set to start at the Summit on
the Park, located at 46000 Summit
Parkway, and will cover a picturesque,
flat course that winds through Heritage
Park and Pheasant Run Golf Course end-
ing.

Thanksgiving concert planned
The combined adult choirs of several
Plymouth churches will present a
Thanksgiving Choir Festival at First
United Methodist Church in Plymouth at
4 p.mNov. 29.
The choirs will celebrate Thanksgiving
with a music festival featuring anthems
sung by a 75-voice community choir
accompanied by handbells, organ and
piano, as well as an audience sing-along
of familiar Thanksgiving hymns.
Admission is free; an offering will be
requested to benefit theSalvationArmy.
First UnitedMethodist Church is locat-

Beck Road, and offers ample parking and
barrier-free entrance.

Free holidaymeal served
For the fifth year, the members of
Living By Faith Church in Romulus will
serve freeThanksgiving dinners.
The traditional dinner with turkey and
stuffing along with side dishes will be
served from noon until 3 p.m. Nov. 24 at

dinner is open to the public at no charge.
