Sandy Marulis will portray Miss
Daisy when Barefoot Productions
brings Driving Miss Daisy to the
stage at 8 p.m. Nov. 9,10,16,17 and at
2 p.m. Nov. 11 and 18.
Marulis, a 40-year resident of
Plymouth, is the former owner of
Michigan Made & More in down-
town Plymouth. She is known by
many for her dedication to the
preservation and development of
the community through her work
on the Plymouth Community
Chamber of Commerce as past
president and the chair of the retail
committee; the director of the
Plymouth Downtown Development
Board; a member of the Downtown
Business Association as well as con-
tinuing to serve on the board of
Friends of thePennTheatre.
Marulis is presently working
with Calvin Carson and David
Fedewa, talented actors from the
Rosedale Community Players, a
community theater that has had
been performing in surrounding
neighborhoods for the past 43 years.
“We're happy to have themwork-
ing with us to help bring about the
highest standard of local theatre to
our audiences,” remarked Brian
Cahalan, president of Barefoot
Productions.
Marulis said she is enjoying her
starring role in the play.
“I am having so much fun work-
ing with the members of Barefoot
Productions. I've always enjoyed
dressing up and participated in
Plymouth After Dark - When the
Stars Come Out as Dolly Parton,
Mrs. Potato Head, Yoda, Cat in the
Hat and the Scarecrow from the
Wizard of Oz, but as Miss Daisy, I'm
really learning the craft.
“I'm just thankful I have the
opportunity to be a part of such a
worthwhile event. I'm hoping
everyone will come out for this
show, but also support our very own
community theatre's future offer-
ings and make the performances a
part of their cultural experience
within our community,” Marulis
said.”
Tickets are $16 for general
admission and $14 for students and
seniors and may be purchased by
calling (734)560-1493 or at www.just-
gobarefoot.com.
“I haven't been on stage since
high school and I absolutely love it.
I'm having so much fun and the
show is going very well,” Marulis
said.”

Canton Fire Chief Timothy
Dunnmarked the last day of his 27-
year career with the department
last Friday. Dunn announced his
retirement lastmonth.
Dunn was hired on to the
department in 1985 as a firefighter.
He was promoted to the rank of
captain in 2006, battalion chief in
2007 and he became chief in 2010.
He holds a Bachelor of Science
Degree from Madonna University,
and completed Eastern Michigan
University's Staff and Command
School in 2007.
Dunn also served as president
of the Canton Firefighters Union,
Local 2289 for 20 years.
“Tim's excellent attitude and
commitment to the organization
proved to be instrumental in lead-
ing the fire department through
unprecedented fiscal changes
occurring over the past two years,”
said Public Safety Director Patrick
Nemecek.
Dunn and his wife of 11 years,
Mary, are the parents of two daugh-
ters, Abigail, age 9, and Katelyn,
age 8.
Following a competitive assess-
ment center process, Deputy Chief
Josh Meier was selected as Dunn's
replacement.
Meier was hired by the depart-
ment as a public safety service offi-
cer in 1997. He became a firefight-
er/paramedic in 1999, and was pro-
moted to deputy fire chief last year.
Meier has an Associate's Degree
in Fire Science from Schoolcraft
College, and is a recent graduate of
Fire Staff and Command School
through Eastern Michigan
University. He has also been an
active member of the Canton
Firefighter'sUnionBoard.
“Josh's knowledge of the fire
service, and his long-term visions
for the department will make hima
good fit as chief,” said Nemecek. “I
expect his transition into the posi-
tion to be a smoothone,” he added.
Meier and his wife, Lisa, have
been married for 11 years. They
have two sons, Jacob, age 8, and
Joseph, age 6.
Sandy Marulis, as Miss Daisy, and Calvin Carson are preparing for open-
ing night tomorrow of the Barefoot Productions presentation of Driving
Miss Daisy.
