Thanksgiving food needed
The Salvation Army is collecting
food items such as turkeys, stuffing,
canned vegetables and other items.
for the Thanksgiving Food
Distribution set forNov. 23 and 25.
More than 450 families will be
helped by the program this year. The
deadline for donations is
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. There are
also several volunteer opportunities
for Thanksgiving and Christmas pro-
grams.

Clothing being collected
Station 885 Restaurant in Old
Village of Plymouth and La Bistecca
Italian Grille on Plymouth Road are
both involved in the Suits for
Soldiers collection project. Suits for
Soldiers provides services for veter-
ans including clothing them for job
interviews, counseling, job inter-
viewhelp andmuchmore.
The restaurants are accepting
gently used, clean clothing through
Nov. 30 which will then be distrib-
uted to members of the armed
forces through the Suits for Soldiers
organization. Monetary donations
will also be accepted. Checks should
bemade out toSuits for Soldiers.

Library hosts hobbyists
A group for people who like to
knit, crochet, tat, embroider or sew
meets at the Romulus Public
Library, 11121 Wayne Road at 6:30
p.m. the first Wednesday of each
month. Participants learn skills from
each other and can use library
books for patterns and learning. The
group is open to everyone 18 and
older. There is no need to register;
just bring your projects.

The Friends of the Library have
scheduled used book sales for noon
to 4 p.m. the second Friday and
Saturday of the month in the
Romulus Public Library meeting

Church hosts 'Feather Party'
St. Aloysius Church Ushers Club
will host Feather Party Bingo begin-
ning at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the parish
activity center, 37200 Neville St. in
Romulus.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Twelve paper games are $12 per
packet and three paper quick games
will cost $1 each. Bingo prizes will
be gift certificates for chickens and
turkeys.

prize of turkey and basket of goodies
and or one of 20 turkey gift certifi-
cates.

Book clubmeets at library
The Second Monday Book Club
at the Romulus Public Library,
11121 Wayne Road is a book discus-
sion group open to everyone 18 and
older. Different books are discussed
each month from 7 to 8 p.m. each
second Monday of the month.

istration and library staff can assist
in getting a copy of the featured

Genealogists tomeet
An Introduction to Polish
Research will be the topic of guest
speaker Jan Zaleski at the 1:15 p.m.
Nov. 10 meeting of the Northville
Genealogy Society.
Zaleski is a native and lifelong
resident of Detroit. From 1990-1995,
he was one of three Accredited
Genealogists with a Specialty in
Polish Research on researcher lists
distributed by the LDS/Mormon
Family History Library. For 27 of the
last 29 years, he has been a member
of the board of directors of the
Polish Genealogical Society of
Michigan, and served in various
capacities, including six years as
president.
The meeting is free and open to
the public at the Northville District

Health Fair planned
Plymouth Community United
Way is partnering with St. Mary
Mercy Hospital, the Plymouth
Council on Aging, and Plymouth
Lions Club to present a Community
Health Fair from 3-5 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 14, at the Plymouth Cultural
Center, 525 Farmer. The event is free
and open to the public.
There will be a variety of health
screenings and chair exercise along
with nutrition demonstrations and
presentations.
Fern Vining, a Certified Diabetes
Educator and retired Registered
Nurse, focuses on Diabetes
Awareness from 3:30-5:30 p.m. A
representative of St. Mary Mercy
Hospital will be there to talk about
their Senior Assessment Resource
Institute from4-4:20 p.m.

people to get valuable information
to support a healthy lifestyle," said
Marie Morrow, United Way presi-
dent.

Library hosts clothing drive
The Romulus Public Library,
11121 Wayne Road. will host a win-
ter clothing drive, Nov. 11 to Dec. 7.
The goal is to think about others
during the holidays by providing
warmth during the cold Michigan
winter. The collection will include
mittens and hats, which will be
turned over to the Romulus
Goodfellows for distribution to local
families.

The Detroit Institute of Arts -
Watch Me Move: The Animation
Show will be presented at 6:30 p.m.
Nov. 12 at theWaynePublicLibrary
Explore over 150 years of animat-
ed film in the most extensive anima-
tion exhibit ever created. Comprised
of more than 100 film clips across
cultures and generations, learn how
moving images have evolved with
new techniques and technology. A
DIA volunteer will share images and
information from this one-of-a-kind
museumpresentation.

RomulusHealth Fair set
The annual Romulus Health and
Wellness Fair at theRomulus Senior
Center will take place from 9:30 a.m.
until 2 p.m. Nov. 14.
Health professionals and related
vendors will participate in the event.
The fair targets senior citizens but is
open to the public.
It will offer flu shots, blood pres-
sure checks, blood sugar screenings
and other tests.

Table space rental for the event is
$100 plus a donation for the raffle

Mass transit is topic
TheWayneHistorical Societywill
host a program about the old Inter
Urban Transportation System.
Richard Andrews will share his
knowledge about this early mass
transit system that ran from Detroit
to Eloise, Wayne, Plymouth and
Northville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 14 the Wayne Historical
Museum.

Philharmonic presents
HighlandPipes
The Michigan Philharmonic will
present Highland Pipes at 2 p.m.
Nov. 17 at First United Methodist

The concert will include a world
premiere of a Scottish Bagpipe con-
certo by Peter Taussig and feature
piper Nancy Tunnicliffe, fresh from
her performance with the Boston
Pops.
The concert will also feature
Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3,
known as the ScottishSymphony.
