Local artist and world
renowned photographer Monty
Nagler has taken on another art-
world challenge.
Nagler has agreed to act as
the juror and judge for the 6th
Annual Artist's Exhibition art
showat theThreeCities Art Club
exhibition at the Westland
Gallery at Westland City Hall.
Nagler, who is also a writer, lec-
turer and teacher of photogra-
phy, holds amaster's degree from
the University of Michigan. He
became a car designer and prod-
uct planner in the automotive
industry before turning his cre-
ative energy to photography. His
passion and drive for photogra-
phy were greatly enhanced after
an intensive workshop with
Ansel Adams in Yosemite
National Park.
Nagler conducts classes and
seminars throughout the world
and he has written a popular
newspaper column and is the
author of six highly successful
photography books. Frequently,
he is called upon to jury compe-
titions and to speak on photogra-
phy topics on local radio and tel-
evision stations.
Approximately 65 pieces will
be selected fromthe entries to be
included in the exhibition.
Ribbons and prizes will be
awarded for first, second and
third place plus two honorable
mention prize winners in two
categories - photography and all
others. Mayor William Wild will
once again select his favorite
piece for his personal $100 "Wild
About Art Award".
A reception is planned from
4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
Dec. 7 when many of the artists
will be available to talk with
attendees. Winning artists will
receive their awards at about 6
p.m. There is no charge to
attend the exhibition or the
reception.
Artwork will be accepted for
the show through Wednesday,
Nov. 15. Original fine art includ-
ing oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel,
collage, mixed media, etc. and
photography are eligible. Art
should be delivered Nov. 28 to
the Westland Gallery at city hall
located at 36300 Warren Road
(west of Westland Shopping
Center) for jurors to make selec-
tions for inclusion in the exhibi-
tion and judging for prizes. Full

More than 55 scarecrows fill
the streets of Wayne this year
during the 5thAnnual Scarecrow
Show.
The straw sculptures were
hung by volunteers from Wayne
Main Street and Wayne
Memorial High School Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps
(JROTC) earlier this month.
Each scarecrow has been
designedby an individual, family,
community group or business
and one will have the honor of
being named the online voting
contest winner and another will
be designated as the people's
choice contest winner. The win-
ners will be awarded a small
prize sponsored by Kurt's Caps
and be featured on the registra-
tion form next year along with
having bragging rights.
The scarecrow with the most
"likes" on the Wayne Main Street
Facebook page in the 2017 album
will be the online contest cham-
pion.
The People's Choice winner
will be chosen during a recep-
tion and voting from 3-7 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 19 at Derby's Alley,

Wayne. Voting will take place
during the evening and compli-
mentary refreshments will be
served.
The people's choice winner
will be announced at the event.

with repairs for walking paths
and the repaving of the existing
tennis and basketball courts.
The Wayne County millage
funding will allocate $17,561 to
be used to complete this proj-
ect, with an additional $68,368
coming from the city capital
improvement fund.
Cayley Park at 33982 Grand
Traverse is scheduled to have a
new basketball court installed.
Funding for this project is
being provided by a
Community Development
Block Grant in the amount of
$45,000.

Grand Traverse has also
received a $100,000 grant from
the state which will be applied
toward a walking path, pavilion
andparking lot repaving servic-
es.

opportunity to revitalize a
major portion of the city's parks
portfolio at a time where
experts are encouraging par-
ents to keep their children
active,” commented Mayor
WilliamR.Wild.
“The City of Westland has
recently begun a comprehen-
sive makeover of the city's
parks and recreation assets
and we appreciate the leader-
ship of Rep. Kosowski and
Wayne County CEO Warren
Evans

Commissioners Anderson and
Hadious at the state and county
level to help make these proj-
ects possible,” he added.

John Glenn High School students collected more than $2,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation with their Powderpuff football game Oct. 4. The John Glenn cheerleaders faced
off against each other on the field for a game while the members of the John Glenn football team
cheered for them from the sidelines. The school marching band provided halftime entertainment at
the event.
