Romulus concerts continue
The Romulus Downtown
Development Authority (DDA)
will host the final concert in the
free summer music series,
"Sounds in Downtown", at the
Romulus Historical Park from 7-
9:30 p.m. tomorrow.
The Romulus Historical Park
is located at 11147 Hunt St. In
addition to the music, there will
be family activities, vendors,
concessions and refreshments
available for purchase.
Attendees should bring their
own lawn chair or blanket to
watch the show. Performers
tomorrow will be Infinity and
Beyond - JourneyTribute
Concerts will take place rain
or shine, except in the case of
lightning.
The Sounds in Downtown
series is sponsored by the

PATHworkshops offered
Person Action toward Health
(PATH) workshops are planned
in August and September at the
Western Wayne Family Health
Center, 2700 Hamlin Blvd. in
Inkster.
The six-week workshop ses-
sions led by certified leaders
take place on Monday after-
noons. They are designed to pro-
vide skills and tools to help peo-
ple living with long-term health
problems.

First Step seeks volunteers
First Step, the domestic and
sexual violence community serv-
ice agency for Wayne County, is
seeking volunteers to help with
assault response, nurturing,
clerical, donations and group
volunteering.
Training will be provided in
September and new volunteers
need to register by tomorrow.

Grief workshops available
GriefShare is a 13-week, non-
denominational program that
focuses on grief topics associat-
ed with the death of a loved one.
Meetings will take place from 6-
8 p.m. at the Romulus Wesleyan
Church at Goddard and Huron
RiverDrive fromSept. 8 through
Dec. 15. Participants may attend
any or all meetings, although the
most benefit is received through
attending everymeeting.
The DVD seminar/support
group features nationally
respected grief experts and real-
life stories by people who have
experienced the pain of losing a
loved one, followed by group dis-
cussion.
Participants will learn how to
recognize certain emotions that
hinder healing, how to handle
insensitive people, and the
symptoms of being stuck in grief.
Grief-related handouts will be
available eachweek.
Registration fee is $15 which
will include a journal/workbook
that coordinates with the DVD
lesson for eachweek.

Old FashionedCornRoast set
Connection Church in Canton
will be the site of the Canton
Lions Club Annual Charity Corn
Roast from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 27.
There is no admittance
charge and only donations will
be accepted.
In addition to the roasted
ears of corn, the Canton Concert
Band will perform, Ear Center
Audiology will provide hearing
examinations, there will be face
painting and a balloon twister.
Leader Dog School puppies will
be on hand, there will be a pet-
ting farm and a bounce house
and there will also be massages
from Village Wellness Center
and wood carvers along with a
raffle of gift baskets.
The event will feature all-you-
can-eat roasted corn, hot dogs,
baked beans, watermelon,ice
cream, cotton candy, snow cones
and a beverage, all for a dona-
tion to theLions Club.
All funds will be donated to
charities supported by the Lions
club of Belleville andCanton.
Connection Church is located
at 3855 SheldonRoad inCanton.
Family Fest planned
For the 11th year, Cross
Pointe Community Church will
host the annual Family Fest and
Car Show planned from noon
until 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.
The free event includes
amusement rides for children, a
bounce house and all-you can
eat meals. The menu this year
includes chicken sandwiches,
hot dogs, corn on the cob,
nachos, popcorn, cotton candy,
ice creamand soda.
The church will also give
away clothing and new back-
packs for students. Last year,
more than 1,000 bags of clothing
and 500 backpacks were given
away during the day-long event.
Sponsors of the event this
year include Jack Demmer
Ford, Gordon Chevrolet and
Ford Local Union 600 and 900,
alongwithdonations.
The event will continue rain
or shine. The church is located

Lighthouse sets yard sale
The Lighthouse, located at
34033 Palmer Road in Westland
is hosting a yard sale from 9 a.m.
until 7 p.m. Sept. 2 through Sept.
10.
The Lighthouse is a 501c3
and funds a pantry for those less
fortunate.
All money from the yard sale
will go to buy food for the pantry.
Donations are needed and can
be dropped off at the building
from 1 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday
throughFriday.
The group also needs volun-
teers to help with the prepara-
tion for the sale Aug. 29 through
Sept. 1.

Soul Food Junkies invited
The history of soul food will
be the topic of a documentary
film to be shown from5-7:30 p.m.
Aug. 31 at the Dozier Recreation
Center, 2025 Middlebelt Road in
Inkster.
There will be food sampling
and conversation about healthi-
er alternatives to soul food,
including nutrition.
The event is planned in cele-
bration of Minority Health
Month.

Victorian clothing sale set
The Northville Historical
Society will sponsor the 2016
Heritage Festival Victorian
Clothing Sale from 1-7 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 7, Thursday,
Sept. 8 and Friday, Sept. 9 at Mill
Race Historical Village, 215
Griswold St. north of Main
Street.
Victorian era clothing and
accessories for adults and chil-
dren will be available for pur-
chase from various vendors.
Some clothing is new, some gen-
tly used and some is vintage.
There is a $2 admission
charge per adult visiting the
sale. Cash sales are preferred
and some vendors may not
accept checks or credit cards.

The Friends of the Westland
Library are planning a Fall
Used Book Sale from 10 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday,
Sept. 16 and 17 and from noon

Sunday is $4 bag day.
This sale only, CDs and DVDs
will be $1 or a maximum of $5
for each set.
There is a special Friends
only sale from3-6 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 15.

Overeaters Anonymous
Region 5 members will meet for
a convention with speakers,
workshops, entertainment, a
free clothing exchange and fel-
lowship Sept. 16-18 at the
Sheraton Detroit Airport Hotel,
8000 Merriman Road in
Romulus.
The convention is open to the
public. Overeaters Anonymous
is a national group with no dues,
no fees, no weigh-ins and no
diets.
