Youths bowl for free

The Westland Youth Assistance Program is hosting free summer bowling for those between the ages of 10 and 16 from 6-8:30 p.m. every Friday until Aug. 12 at Westland Bowl.

SeniorsHealth Expo planned

The September Days Senior Center in Van Buren Township will host a Health and WellnessExpo fromnoonuntil 7 p.m. Aug. 5. Included will be exhibits, entertainment, health screenings, dancing, door prizes and food.

Friends continue book sale

Romulus schools accepting enrollments The Romulus Community School District will accept applications for School of Choice students for the 2011-2012 school year until Aug. 18.

Five vacancies in each grade, kinder-garten through five are available at Barth, Halecreek, Romulus and Wick elementary schools, in grades six through eight at Romulus Middle School and in grade 12 only at RomulusHighSchool.

Annual 'Crawl' set inOld Village

The Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 12th Annual Old Village Restaurant Crawl from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Sorority sponsors health fair

The third annual Health Fair sponsored by the Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Booker Dozier RecreationComplex in Inkster.

Health screenings will be offered during the day for hypertension, diabetes, high cho-lesterol, vision loss, dental health and nutri-tion. In addition, therewill bemassage thera-py and selected examinations for other health concerns.

ShredDay set in VanBuren

Residents of Van Buren Township Recall Corp. and Van Buren Township will host Free Shred Day from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Aug. 13.

Residents may drop off items to be shred-ded at the Township Hall front parking lot located at 46425TylerRoad, inBelleville. A maximum of five cartons or medium size bags of documents per vehicle will be accepted for shredding. Items must not include any three-ring binders or metal of any kind. Foundation races to help kids

The Community Action Foundation, a group that provides help to needy children in five area communities, has scheduled the annual fundraising event for Aug. 14. The 5K race takes place at Van Buren Park at beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14. Registration will be followed by a Kids 1K race at 8:15 and the 5K race at 8:30 a.m. Following the races, the community is invited for free hot dogs and activities. Shoe and sock drive under way

Dr. Joseph Silver ofWestland is among the members of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association who are partnering with local nonprofit organizations to assist local fami-lies in need as they prepare their children for the upcoming school year. The organiza-tion is sponsoring a New Shoe and Sock Drive tohelp familieswith shoe essentials. Payless Shoe stores are partners in some communities. Many individual podiatrists are purchasing shoes and socks to support the drive while collecting footwear at their offices. New shoes and socks in children's sizes to fit students in grades kindergarten through eight can be donated at Silver's

Lucky Ducks to race

The Belleville Rotary Club will present the annual Lucky Ducky Rubber Duck Race on Belleville Lake immediately following the Belleville Bridge Walk that will take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

Ducks will race from the Denton Road Bridge to theBellevilleRoadBridge. Tickets are available at many locations throughout

Belleville including the Belleville Area Museum, Main Street Flowers, Johnny's Grill, Fred C. Fisher Library, Van Buren Township Clerk's Office and from any BellevilleRotaryClubmember.

Ticket prices are $5 per ticket or five tick-ets for $20.

Prizes will be awarded to the first seven ducks that cross the finish line with a with a first place prize of $250. In addition there will be a special prize for the last-place duck. Proceeds will benefit the Belleville Rotary Club and the Belleville Area Historical Society.

The series opened to sold-out crowds last week Riverside Drive is another zany and neurotic short play written by Woody Allen. Jim, a successful writer, is preparing to meet with his mistress, Barbara, in a secret and secluded location along the Hudson River. What Jim was not expecting was the company of Fred, his writing partner. Following Riverside Drive, Five Miles More, a jazz quartet from the Ann Arbor area, will perform.
