their managers all decided to give away hamburgers, “because every-body else does”? Same deal. It did-n't take a group of Mensa members to figure this one out.

Let me ask you this, folks. How many of you actually buy a newspa-per. Looks like maybe 14 of you signed, or tried to sign, this letter. Any of you subscribe? Any of you actually plunk your 50 cents down for a paper eachweek? Didn't think so.

Look, I don't make the news (well, I try not to) I can only report what I can find out, and since I'm pretty much a one-man band here anymore, I have to depend on what people send in, call me about, or stuff from long-time sources who take pity onme.

And yes, now that I think about it, I should be kinder and gentler. After all, you are in adult day care centers, which means this was probably a big event for you, writ-ing a letter to the editor. It's not your fault it was insulting, inaccu-rate and annoying. I'm trying to consider your ages and physical and mental conditions in my over-reaction to your rudeness. Some of youmay evenbe as old as I am. The being nice and understand-ing thing is not working for me. I'm still fried. Especially since in my

experience, at least one of you or your family is buying the largest circulation newspaper in the world, the National Enquirer, or the Star to discover the latest “good news” that group of muckrakers has to offer.

So, you want a “good newspa-per”? Guess what? So do I. I'd love to be able to recommend one to you folks.

Unfortunately, nothing that suits either of us comes tomind.

active service, particularly those who have seen combat, want only to get home. It is only after being home for awhile that the trauma of unemployment, disability, medical or psychological problems or lack of advocacy begin to adversely impact their lives.

This seminar provides informa-tion about benefits for all veterans, no matter when or where they may have served our country.

There is help out there for them. We urge anyonewho knows a veter-an, knows of a veteran, or who may have a contact with any veterans organization, to do as much as pos-sible to publicize this seminar set for Sept. 14 and 15 at Laurel Manor inLivonia as possible.

This is the very least each of us owes to every one of those who served.

Sports fans

These basebal l fans enjoyed the 2010 Dale A. Rumberger Home Run Derby, a benefit for the Miracle League of Plymouth planned this year for 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Salem High School Baseball Field. Eighteen high school stand-out players from nine schools will compete at the family-friendly event which includes a silent auction and a table for registration for players at the new Miracle League of Plymouth baseball field which opens Aug. 20. The Miracle League removes the barri-ers that can prevent chil-dren with mental and physi-cal special needs from play-ing baseball. Teams play on a custom-designed, rubber-ized turf field that accom-modates wheelchairs and other assistive devices. For registration information, call Chris Kordick (734) 459-6629.
