Calendar of events
Third Thursday tonight
Downtown Plymouth merchants will
launch an interactive shopping experience
called "3rdThursdays" from4-9 p.m. today.
Twenty-seven downtown shops, boutiques
and restaurants are staying open until 9 p.m.,
giving visitors more time to enjoy the long
summer nights. Perks for shoppers and din-
ers include street performers, in-store activi-
ties, preferred evening prices and drink spe-
cials.
"3rd Thursdays" takes place along Forest
Avenue, in Forest Place and at shops on Ann
Arbor Trail. The festivities will continue Aug.
15 andSept.19.
Tennis classes offered
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will offer an
Introduction to Tennis program from 6-6:55
p.m. on Wednesdays from Aug. 14 until Sept.
4.
The sessions will take place at Attwood
Park and are designed for students 6-10 years
of age.
The cost for the lessons, which will teach
basic skills, concepts, terminology and skills,
is $30 per student. Racquets will be provided
for studentswho need them.
A more advanced Skills Camp will be
offered from 7-7:55 p.m. the same dates.
These classes are for 11-14 year old students
andwill also cost $30 per student.
Classes are designed for beginning and
intermediate level students.
Students should bring a racquet, sun-
screen, water bottle andwear tennis shoes.
All classeswill take place at AttwoodPark.

Concours d'Elegance tickets on sale
The 35th annual Concours d'Elegance of
America is returning to Plymouth July 25
through 28.
The premiere car show takes place on the
grounds of The Inn at St. John's located on
Five Mile Road just east of Sheldon Road. It
includes a car show, an auction, a motoring
tour and other car-related events. Further

Ella Bridal, Dearborn Jewelers of Plymouth,
Fiamma Grill and Station 885 all in
Plymouth.
Three hundred of the most valuable and
rarest vehicles in theworldwill be ondisplay.
A portion of all proceeds is donated to
Hospice of Michigan, Leader Dogs for the
Blind and theCollege for Creative Studies.
Raffle tickets aid shelter
Jakes Auto and Truck Repair has donated
a 2013 Del Ray scooter which is being raffled
off to help fund theRomulus Animal Shelter.
Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and
are available at both Jake's locations, 36766
Goddard Road and 12003 S. Huron River Dr,
at the Romulus Animal Shelter and fromCity
CouncilmanWilliamWadsworth.
The drawing will take place during the
Romulus Downtown Development Authority
Pumpkin Festival at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 on the
WabashFreightHouseEntertainment Stage.

Museumvisit planned
The Northville Art House is organizing a
visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts for area
seniors.
The free visit will being at 1 p.m. Aug. 16
with a tour of the Northville Art House prior
to boarding the complimentary shuttle bus
fromNorthville to theDIA. The bus will leave
theArtHouse, 215Cady St., at about 2 p.m.
There will be a tour of the downtown
Detroit museum before the shuttle departs
for Northville at 4:30 p.m. The bus will drop
passengers off at theNorthvilleArtHouse.
The free day trip is limited to the first 55
participantswho are 55 and older.

Friends seeking home to help
The Wayne Friends organization is seek-
ing nominations for homes for the 15th year
of their annual project.
The volunteer group meets to help a local
homeowner with maintenance and painting
each year. The only stipulation for homes is
that theymust be owner occupied.
This year, the volunteer home makeover
will take place Sept. 14. In case of rain, the
daywill be changed toSept. 21.
Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the
Wayne Banquet Center for a continental
breakfast and then travel to the selected
home which they will paint in "five hours or
less," according to group organizer Edward
McMurray. Volunteers are need for the com-
munity event.
To suggest a homeowner who could use
the Friends' help due to age or financial cir-
cumstances, or to volunteer, contact

Church plansWowJam
They're looking for smiles and if the plans
the members of Cornerstone City Church are
any indication, they are sure to succeed dur-
ing theWowJamplanned for July 19.
The church is looking to transform the
lives of area neighbors with the free event
planned from4-8 p.m. inWayne.
The outreach event is a party for the local
community and everything offered will be
free to those who attend. The church will be
providing free groceries, free haircuts and
manicures, free family photos, free bike
repair, free pottedplants and free hotmeals.
There will also be prize giveaways, games
for children, a Bounce House and other
entertainment.
The Wow Jam will take place at Goudy
Park, 3355 South Wayne Road, near Wayne
CityHall, inWayne.

Senator sets local hours
Sen. Patrick Colbeck (R-Canton) will meet
with local constituents at George's Senate
Coney Island in Northville from 7-9 a.m. on
Friday, July 19. Colbeck will be on hand to
answer questions and respond to residents'
concerns on issues related to state govern-
ment. No appointment is necessary.
Also in attendance will be Colbeck's In-
District Manager Penny Crider. The restau-
rant is located at 39430 Dun Rovin Dr. in
Northville.

Class of 1983 to 'reunite'
Romulus High School class of 1983 gradu-
ates will celebrate their 30 year reunion from
6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Holiday Inn,
17201NorthlineRoad inSouthgate.
All alumni and friends of classes 1981
through 1985 are invited to the event.
Admission is $65 per person until July 3
and $70 per personuntil July 26.

Circus comes to town
The Kelly Miller Circus will come to
Waynewith shows at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Aug.
10.
Advance tickets, $10 for adults and $6 for
children, will be available at the Wayne-
Westland Community Center, Jack Demmer
Ford, MarkChevrolet,WayneWestlandCredit
Union, Henry's Service Center and the
Westland Municipal Golf Course. Day of the
event tickets are $15 for adult admittance and
$7 for childrenunder 12.
The circus will be on the grounds of
Attwood Park, adjacent to the Wayne
Community Center.
Library sponsors golf event
The Friends of the Wayne Public Library
are sponsoring a family fund raising event to
support the children ofWayne.
The Wayne Indoor Mini-Golf event will
take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at
the Wayne Public Library, 3737 South Wayne
Road.
All proceeds from the event will be used to
enhance the children's materials at the
library.

Chamber members tee off
The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce will host the 2013 golf outing
beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. Aug.
22 at the Woodlands Golf Course, 39670
EcorseRoad inWayne.
The cannon start will be at 9:30 a.m. sharp
after a continental breakfast.
Early bird registration is $110 per golfer,
$440 per foursome. After July 22, registration
is $120 per golfer and $480 per foursome.
