An Ordinance to amend the Official Zoning Map of the City of Romulus by conditionally rezoning
certain property from RC, Regional Center to M-1, Light Industrial District.
THE CITY OF ROMULUS ORDAINS:
SHORT TITLE: This Ordinance shall be known and cited as the Amended Zoning Ordinance.
SECTION 1:
To conditionally rezone 84.7 acres including portions of Parcel #80-038-99-
0001-000, #80-038-99-0002-701, and #80-038-99-0004-703 from RC, Regional
Center District to M-1, Light Industrial District.

Deandre Merkie Simmons, 42, of
Inkster is facing multiple charges in a
traffic accident that claimed the life of a
73-year-old South Lyon man and injured
two others.
According to reports from the office of
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy,
Simmons was intoxicated and drove his
pick up truck on the wrong side of West
Canfield Street mowing down the three
pedestrians. The incident took place at
about 5:15 p.m. June 8, striking the pedes-
trians who were viewing a Tesla car
exhibit near the Shinola store in down-
townDetroit.
A 65-year-old Milford woman and a 65-
year-oldMilfordmanwere also injured in
the incident that took the life of the 73-
year-old. All three victims were taken to a
local hospital for treatment of their
injuries.
The 73-year-old man died from his
injuries while the 65-year-old woman
remained hospitalized and under treat-
ment at press time. The 65-year-old was
treated and released fromthe hospital.
According to police, alcohol is suspect-
ed to have been involved in the incident
andSimmonswas driving on a suspended
driver's license.
Simmons has been charged with: driv-
ing with license suspended causing
death; reckless driving causing death;
operating under the influence causing
death; driving while license suspended
causing serious injury; reckless driving
causing serious impairment and operat-
ing while intoxicated causing serious
injury.
Simmons was arraigned Monday in
34th District Court in Romulus by video.
He was issued a $100,000 cash bond with
a requirement for an alcohol tether
shouldhe be released.
A 47-year-old Romulus man is facing
felony charges in connection with an
attack on a woman jogging in Oakwood
MetroPark inHuronTownship.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy
has charged Darien Noel Pickling with
one count each of kidnapping; robbery
not armed; assault with intent to commit
criminal sexual conduct and assault with
intent to commit great bodily harm.
According to reports from the prosecu-
tor's office, Pickling was charged after a
26-year-old Rockwood woman jogging in
the park at about 3:05 p.m. June 6 noticed
a man riding a bicycle toward her in an
area of the park with heavy shade trees.
She told police she turned to run in the
opposite direction, but the assailant
caught up with her, punched her in the
face several times and attempted to
remove her clothing. The complainant
told officers she fought the man and he
ran fromthe area, taking her cell phone.
She told police that she ran from the
scene in the opposite direction taken by
her assailant and arrived at a nearby
home where a woman allowed her to
enter and use the phone. She called the
Huron Township Police Department and
reported the incident.
Pickling was arrested by Metro Park
officers the same day and had the
woman's cell phone inhis possession.
Pickling, the father of five with a sixth
child on the way, was arraigned June 8 at
the 34th District Court in Romulus before
Judge Brian Oakley who ordered a
$100,000 cash/surety bond.
Honored visitor
Students at Barth Elementary received a recent visit and were honored by the
Dean of Congress John Conyers. Conyers presented the students with congres-
sional certificates of achievement for their participation in the Investwrite Stock
Market Game. Conyers told the students, "Education is a ticket to success, and it
is impressive that you are already thinking at a high school level". Conyers spent
time taking questions and discussing current political and educational issues with
the students. The Congressman's District Director Yolanda Lipsey, who is a
Romulus High School graduate, was also oh hand and invited the students on a
future tour of the Federal Building in downtown Detroit.
