Hollywood at war is topic
Father and son, Al and Dave Eicher
will present, "When Hollywood Went to
War" during the final Third Thursday
Lecture at the Belleville Historical
Museumat 6 tonight.
This will be a journey through World
War II and the celebrities that served and
supported the war effort including:
Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Stewart, Julie
Garland and the Andrews Sisters. Doors
open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation
will begin at 6:15 p.m. Museum admission
is free to Belleville Historical Society
members, $5 for non-members.

Volunteers needed
Rouge Rescue 2018 will take place
from 9 a.m. until noon this Saturday, May
19.
Volunteers are needed to help clean
theRougeRiverWatershed.
Volunteers will meet at Lion's Club
Park, 575 Burroughs, Plymouth,
(Burroughs between Harding and
Coolidge).
Clean up sites include Tonquish Creek
in the City of Plymouth, where volunteers
will remove trash, debris and invasive
species, install native plants and mark
stormdrains.
Gloves, t-shirts and trash bags will be
available to all participants. Lunchwill be
provided at noon for all volunteers.

The Westland Chamber of Commerce
and The Westland Community
Foundation are accepting registrations
for the Golf Classic set for May 22 at
SalemHillsGolf Club inNorthville.
The event is co-sponsored by Michigan
Chiropractic Specialists and WCA
Assessing andusually sells out.
There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
and a scramble format.
There are rates for single players and
foursomes available which include break-
fast; 18 holes of golf with a cart; lunch;
beer and pop on the course; dinner with
an open bar and a $20 gift certificate at
Salem Hills, along with multiple cash
prizes.

Romulus library is open
The Romulus Public Library will
remain open during construction of the
new 34th District Court building which
will be built next to the facility.
A portion of the library parking lot has
been fenced off and the west entrance to
the campus off of Wayne Road is closed.
Entrance to the library is available off of
Goddard Road north and east of the
library.
Maps of the construction area are
available in the library for patrons and
the information is available on the library
website and social media sites.
Construction is expected to be complete
around this time next year and the park-
ing lot will be resurfaced after the build-
ing is completed.
The library will be closed Saturday,
May 26, for online system migration and
on Monday, May 28 to observe Memorial
Day.

Complex will host a Recreation Forum

Senator to visit Sumpter
Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-Taylor) is
inviting members of the community to
join him at an upcoming coffee hour from
9-11 a.m. Friday, May 18, at the Sumpter
Township. Senior Center to discuss state
and local issues of concern. The coffee
hour will provide an opportunity for citi-
zens to meet Hopgood and share their
thoughts about current events in Lansing
and the local community.

GardenCommunity Day planned
Home Garden Community Day is
planned from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Saturday, May 19 at the Ted Scott Campus
of the Wayne County Community College
District.
Workshops for new gardeners include
the design of landscaping, annual/peren-
nial and vegetable plants, how to start a
garden, composting in a bucket, container
gardening and a demonstration of plant-
ing shrubs and trees.
The workshops are open to the public
at no cost.
There will also be vendors of land-
scape supplies including shrubs, plants
and flowers, alongwith lawn art onhand.

Museumhosts scrapbookingworkshop
The Wayne Historical Society will host
a workshop on the proper preservation of
photographs during two workshops, one
at 1 p.m. and another at 3 p.m. Sunday,
May 19 at 1Towne Square inWayne.
Lisa Graham from Creative Memories
will demonstrate ways to mount and pro-
tect pictures while scrapbooking so that
they can last for generations to come. She
will have demonstration products during
this hands-on workshop. Those attending
should bring four to six photos to make a
practice page.

Bake sale aids police
The Inkster Commission on Aging and
the Inkster Police Department will host a
bake sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. May 23
in the lobby of the Inkster Police
Department, 26279MichiganAve.
The sale may end early if the baked
goods are sold out.
All proceeds will be used to support
community outreach in the community.
Camp registration deadline near
The Wayne-Westland Corps of The
Salvation Army will offer Summer Day
Camp June 18 through Aug. 24 at the
corps on Venoy south of Palmer Road in
Westland.
The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-
12. There will be all-day field trips each
week, gym, art, music, swimming, Bible
lessons, games andmore.
