Food for Fines accepted
The Romulus and Westland
libraries will accept non-perish-
able food items in lieu of fines
throughApril 30.
The Romulus Public Library
will forgive $1 in fines for each item
donated.
The Westland Public Library
will deduct $2 from library fines in
exchange for a canned or boxed
foot item up to $20. The program is
sponsored by Gleaners and The
LibraryNetwork.
Story times set at library
The Romulus Public Library
will offer a spring session of
Preschool Story Time for ages 3½
to 5 at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays
through June 3.

Lifeguard training offered
A Lifeguard Training Course
will be offered from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. Monday through Thursday,
April 21-24, at theRomulus Athletic
Center.
Successful participants will be
certified in American Red Cross
First Aid, CPR, AED and
Lifeguarding. To qualify for regis-
tration, participants must be at
least 15 years old and pass the
swimming prerequisites on the first
day. Those who do not pass the pre-
requisites will be given a full
refund. Participantsmust attend all
class sessions to be certified.
The class fee is $240. Materials

Westlandmarks EarthDay
The City of Westland will mark
Earth Day with a ceremony at 2
p.m. April 22 at the Norwayne
Community Garden located at the
northwest corner of Newaygo and
Dorsey in the Norwayne communi-
ty.
The event is being sponsored by
National Faith Homebuyers who
will be providing soil, tools and
refreshments so that volunteers
from the Hegira Counseling Youth
Spring Break group, the Westland
Youth Assistance Program and Sts.
Simon and Jude Youth Group,
among others, can clean up winter
debris, prepare beds by cleaning
them and spreading fresh soil and
straw, install rain barrels and plant
perennials.
Mayor William Wild will be
highlighting the youth of the com-
munity and the contributions they
make to Westland and the
Norwayne community andwill also
present the Mission:Green Eco-
Award to four worthy recipients for
their work and dedication toward
making Westland a greener place
to live, work andplay.
Mother's Day crafts at library
A Mother's Day craft-making
program is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Monday, April 28, in the meeting
room of the Romulus Public
Library, 11121WayneRoad.
The program is open to children
ages 4 and older. Participants will
make mom something special and
from the heart. Mothers will not be
allowed in the room to make the
gift a surprise. Dads arewelcome.

Summer DayCamps planned
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will offer
Summer Day Camp June 16
throughAug. 29.
The camps will take place from
8:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.
Extended care hours are 7:30-8:30
a.m. and 5:30-6 p.m.
The fee is $26 per day or $130 a
week for residents and $33 a day or
$165 weekly for non residents.
There is a $5 charge for field trips
and extended care hours require a
$10 per child fee per day.

Holiday lunch and craft showplanned
The public is invited to enjoy an
Easter luncheon and a seasonal
arts and crafts show onWednesday,
April 23, at the Romulus Senior
Center.
The craft show starts at 10 a.m.
There is a $10 table fee for seniors
and others interested in selling arts
and crafts, but no admission charge
for visitors.
The luncheon, sponsored by
Faith Home Care Services LLC,
begins at 11 a.m. The menu
includes chicken, scalloped pota-
toes and mixed vegetables. There
will be gifts and a raffle, plus enter-
tainment by Stuart Kerr. Admission
to the lunch is $2.75.

Bowling for Scholars set
Need a fun activity for the kids
and family during spring break?

ing the Rotary Club of Plymouth
AMraisemoney for scholarships.
The club has reserved lanes
from 4 to 8 p.m. April 24 and partic-
ipants will be able to bowl two
games, with shoe rental, pizza and
soda included for $20. Each lane
will have five players.
Tickets for the event are avail-
able at Travel Leaders at the
Kroger Plaza on the corner of Ann
Arbor Road and Sheldon Road,
International Minute Press on
South Main Street, and the
Michigan Philharmonic at the
Plymouth Community Arts Council
on Sheldon Road. Tickets can also
be purchased frommembers of the
AMRotaryClub.
The money raised for scholar-
ships will provide an opportunity
for students who have overcome
difficulty getting through high
school, to get a start on their college
career. During the past 16 years,
the club has awarded dozens of
scholarships, most to students grad-
uating from the Starkweather pro-
gram.
Freemeditation classes offered
A free introductory series of
meditation and Ayurveda classes
will take place from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
April 26, May 3 and May 10 at The
Center for Massage, Yoga and
Wellness, 1200 Ann Arbor Road in
Plymouth.
Topics will include concentra-
tion and relaxation techniques,
awareness and conscious living,
basics of Ayurveda and secrets of
balanced living.

Chamber honors judge
The Romulus Chamber of
Commerce will honor Judge Brian
Oakley as the 2014 Person of the
Year at a banquet beginning with a
reception at 6 p.m. May 2 at the
Marriott Hotel at Detroit Metro

Bunny Breakfast scheduled
The annual Bunny Breakfast will take
place from 10:30 a.m. until noon tomor-
row, April 18, at the Wayne Community
Center, 4635Howe Road inWayne.
The event, sponsored by the Wayne-
Westland Parks and Recreation
Department will include pancakes,
sausage, juice and arts and crafts. The
cost for Wayne or Westland residents is $5
and non-resident's cost is $6. Children 2
and younger are admitted at no cost.

Annual MarshmallowDrop set
The 30th Annual Marshmallow Drop
will take place at Nankin Mills in Westland
at 11 a.m. tomorrow, April 18.
More than 20,000 marshmallows will
be dropped from the Easter Bunny's heli-
copter to the delight of thousands of chil-
dren who scramble to collect the goodies
and trade them for prizes.
Children will be divided into age
groups, 4-years-old and younger, 5-7
years of age and 8-12 years of age, to
ensure that everyone has an opportunity
to participate.
There will be one colored marshmal-
low for each age group. The finder of the
colored treat will receive an extra special
prize, commemorating the 30th anniver-
sary of the event sponsored by the Wayne
County Parks.

MarshmallowDrop date set
The 35th Annual Marshmallow Drop
will take place beginning at 10 a.m. tomor-
row, April 18 at Attood Park inWayne.
The event, sponsored by CrossPointe
Community Church is open to children 10
and younger at no cost.
The first drop will be for toddlers and
children 4 and younger and children with
disabilities; a second drop will be for chil-
dren ages 5-7 and a third drop will be for
those ages 8-10.
Children can return their marshmal-
lows for assorted prizes.

The 39th Annual Men's Good Friday
Breakfast will take place beginning at 8

Rev. Sunil Noah, the founder of Emmanuel
Bible School and pastor of Emmanuel
Indian Fellowship.

Free Eggstravaganza planned
Friends of Maybury andMaybury State
Parkwill host an EggScramble for children

19. Another scramble for children 6 and

painting, crafts and seed planting.
The eggs children find will be filled with
prizes and Smokey Bear and the Easter
Bunnywill be on hand.
