The Taste of the outdoors can be sweet
indeed-especially when it includes the har-
vesting of sap to be processed into maple
syrup.
Maybury Farm is now offering Maple
Syrup Tours at 1, 1:45, 2:30 and 3:15 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays duringMarch. The
tours include a wagon ride to the woods
where demonstrations of the tapping of
maple trees and the collection of syrup
take place. Visitors will then travel by
wagon ride back to the Sugar Shack where
they can watch and learn how the sap is
converted into maple syrup, how syrup is
graded and how to make maple syrup at
home.
Once the tour is complete, visitors can
warm up in the Maybury Farm Welcome
Center where hot drinks and snacks are
available to enjoy next to the toasty wood
stove. PureMichiganMaple Syrup is avail-
able for purchase alongwith free recipes to
try usingmaple syrup at home.
This event is popular each year and
space is limited so early arrival to reserve a
spot is encouraged. To schedule a private
Farm Tour for groups of 15 or more, call

Maybury Farm is located at 50165 Eight
Mile Road in Northville. The cost for the
Making Maple Syrup Tour is $7 per person
and children 2 and younger attend at no
cost when accompanied by an adult. Visit

Northville Community Foundation, a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is a
working farmwith amission to connect the

Don Mongrain, newly-elected president of the Romulus Democratic Club extended an open invitation to the next
Democratic Club meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Huron River Drive in
Romulus. Amy Benchich, Chairperson of the Michigan Democratic Party Disability Caucus, extended an open
invitation to their next meeting on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the UAWHall on Dix Rd. in Dearborn.

The youngest legislator ever to be
elected in Michigan, State Rep. Jewell
Jones (D-Inkster), took part in the Big XII
Conference on Black Student
Government last weekend in Waco, TX.
The theme of the conference was
“Sankofa: Our Past, Our Present, Our
Future,” and Jones took part in a panel
discussion about “Our Present” along
with two others on a Young, Gifted and
Black panel.
“It's an honor to be asked to speak to
this gathering of students and young pro-
fessionals, and to inspire them to reach
for their dreams,” Jones said prior to the
event. “I truly believe that every new day
is an opportunity, and I hope my partici-
pation in the panel discussion will help
motivate other young people to make the
most of their time and their talent.”
