regarding early college classes at Romulus
High School is planned for 6 tonight at the

The classes allow students to earn up to
an Associates Degree while also working
toward a high school diploma. The program
is open to all Wayne County students. The

Cruise is raffle prize
TheMichigan Philharmonic will raffle off
a cruise through the Baltic Sea, Scandinavia
andRussia for two.
The 11-night trip includes air fare and
will take place aboard the Regal Princess of
Princess CruiseLines Aug. 4-19.
Tickets for the raffle are priced at $50 and
only 400will be sold.
The cruise will depart from Copenhagen
visiting the ports of Oslo, Norway; Berlin,
Germany; Tallinn, Estonia and spend two
days in St. Petersburg, Russia, Helsinki,
Finland andStockholm, Sweden.
The drawing of the winning ticket will
take place May 21 at the Plymouth Arts and
RecreationComplex.
The winner need not be present and will
be notifiedMay 21.

State of theCity tickets on sale
Westland Mayor William R. Wild will
deliver his annual State of the City address
at noon Feb. 23 at the Hellenic Cultural
Center, 36375 JoyRoad inWestland.
This year, Wild is expected to reflect on
the accomplishments of the city and outline
his vision for the future. The address is pre-
sented in partnership with the Westland
Chamber of Commerce.

Summer Camp registration opens
Maybury Farm will offer Day Camp for
Kids again this summer. Maybury FarmDay
Camp is a total hands-on experience that
offers a wide variety of activities that are
both educational and fun-filled, according to
Northville Community Foundation
President Jessica Striegle. Campers will
enjoy learning about farmanimals including
grooming, feeding and walking. Campers
will take nature hikes, do crafts, play games
and learn team building skills as they get to
know all about farm life and the importance
of farmanimals in our everyday lives.
Maybury Farm Summer Day Camp is
open to boys and girls ages 5-12 years old.
Camp hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 21
until Aug. 18. There will be no camp the
week of July 4. The cost is $60 per camper
per day or $150 per week, Tuesday through
Thursday. Campers can sign up for one day
or join for awholeweek.

Academy applications accepted
The Canton Police Department is now
accepting applications for the next Citizens
Police Academy for individuals interested in
acquiring insight and knowledge about how
the police department works.
Individuals attending the academy will
learn about the policies and operational pro-
cedures of the department through presen-
tations, demonstrations and hands-on activi-
ties.
Canton Police Department Citizens
Police Academy will take place from6-9 p.m.
on Thursdays for six weeks, starting April 14
- May 19, with one Saturday morning session
onMay 7.
Class size is limited for this free program.
Applicants must be residents of Canton
Township; be 21 or older; have no felony
convictions, and no misdemeanor convic-
tions in the past 3 years and will be subject
to a to a background check

Hot Reads for ColdNights
The Adult Winter Reading Program will
be under way at the Romulus Community
Library throughMarch 30.
Readers should register at the front desk
to receive a reading log and record each
book read by March 30 when a reception
including food, hot cocoa and prize drawings
will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Reading Program will take place through
March 3 for ages 12 through 17.

Doggone good time
Barefoot Productions Theatre is home to
a new 'dog' who is causing headaches,
heartaches and laughs in the upcoming pro-
duction of SYLVIA, amodern romantic com-
edy written by celebrated playwright, A.R.
Gurney.
The comedy takes to the stage at 8 p.m.

The Van Buren Eagles are planning a
Mardi Gras 2016 party beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature an all-you-can-eat
buffet dinner served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Indoor Golf planned
Friends of theWayne Public Library have
planned an Indoor Mini Golf Fundraiser
fromnoonuntil 4 p.m. Feb. 20.
Organizers will turn the library into a not-
too-challenging mini golf course complete
with 18 holes. There will also be a gift bas-
ket raffle, and lunch will be sold at the "19th
hole". The library will be closed this day for
normal use.
Student tickets for ages 6-18 are $3; adult
tickets for those 18 and older are $5 and fam-
ily tickets for up to six people are $15.
Childrenunder age 5 golf for free.
All children must be accompanied by an
adult.

Skate to help others
Plymouth Community United Way will
host the third annual Community Family
Skate Fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 25, at Skatin' Station II, 8611 Ronda Dr.,
Canton.
Admission is $6 and includes skate rental.
Blade/speed skate rental is $2 extra.
Proceeds benefit Plymouth Community

Chorus serves dinner
Belleville Community Chorus members
will host their 3rd annual Baked Potato
Dinner from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Open Arms
LutheranChurch, 7865BellevilleRoad.
Tickets, priced at $5, include a large
baked potato with a choice of toppings, plus
a beverage and dessert. Tickets may be
obtained from any chorus member prior to
the event or at the door.

Acommercial artist, he died in 1989.
Mrs. Beard servedwith numerous com-
munity organizations and was awarded
many honors during her career. A 150,000
square foot building at the former Wayne
County Hospital or Eloise complex in
Westland is named for her.
Among her survivors are her children,
Ron, Kerry, Don (Deb), Evin (Edie) and
Vicki; six grandchildren; three great-
grandchildren, andher brother, Bill.
Funeral services took place at Most
HolyTrinityChurch inDetroit last week.
Her family suggested memorials to
AngelaHospice.
