Kindergarten enrollment is now under way
Rotary Club serves dinner
The Northville Art House will present POW!
Juried Comic Art Exhibition featuring 38 works of
comic, or comic-inspired, art created by 22 artists
and selected by juror, Jim Anderson from Feb. 2
throughFeb. 24.
Comic art can be defined as an image or series
of images, often displayed together and combined
with text, to tell a story. Comic art also functions as
an avenue for visual experimentation and modes
of self-expression for many artists, a spokesman
said.
Artists participating in the exhibition include
Elisa Albrecht, Kathleen Brenowitz, Joanne Cook,
Terence Cover, Adrienne Dunkerley, Kayleigh
Fogle, Shayauna Glover, Adam Helner, Jessica
Justice, Peggy Kerwan, Jennifer Kesler, Travis
Matchulat, Brandon McDonald, Mike Ortiz, Megan
Roethler, Jan Ross, Shannon Schmidt, Billy
Tackett, Aaron Underwood, Babelon Williams,
ToddZapoli, andEmily Zelasko.
Anderson has been a fan of comics since he was
small, and has been making them for almost as
long. He is currently the creator of the comic strip
Ellie On Planet X, as well as an illustrator and
graphic designer. More information about Jim

Northville Public Schools is
now accepting kindergarten
enrollment for fall 2018.
Parents with children who
will be 5 years of age on or before
Sept. 1, can scheduled an
appointment to enroll the stu-
dent on the 2018-19 Enrollment
page on the district website.
Staff members from the Office
of Student Datawill be present at
district schools during February
and March to review all neces-
sary documentation and process
student enrollments.
Staff will be at Winchester
Elementary School Feb. 6, 7, and
8; at Thornton Creek Elementary
School Feb. 13, 14 and 15; at
Silver Springs Elementary
School Feb. 20, 21 and 22; at
Ridge Wood Elementary School
Feb. 27, 28 and March 1; at
Moraine Elementary onMarch 6,
7, and 8 and at Amerman
Elementary School on March 13,
14 and 15.
Parents should follow steps
one through five on the website
to complete the enrollment forms
and gather information regard-
ing which documents will be
needed to bring to the scheduled
appointment.
Those unsure about the
school their child will be attend-
ing can consult the Attendance
Boundary Map on the district
website.
A parent meeting for incom-
ing 2018-19 kindergarteners will
take place at each school in the
spring.

The Northville Public Schools
Early Childhood Education and
Extended Day Programs offers
Kids' Club at each elementary
school. This tuition-based pro-
gramallows parents the option to
have their child participate in a
before- and/or after-school child-
care program. Kids' Club is
offered as an option on school
days fromas early as 7 a.m. to the
start of school and from school
dismissal until 6 p.m. Early
Childhood also offers Half-Day,
Pre-K PLUS, School-Day and
Full-Day programs.
Members of the Belleville Rotary
Club are again hosting their renowned
Italian Dinner Buffet from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
on Fat Tuesday, Feb.13, at the Van Buren
Eagles, 9961BeckRoad.
Rotarians are cooking up a host of
Mediterranean delights for hungry din-
ers. The pre-Lenten meal features soup,
salads, a pasta bar with several sauces
includingmeat and vegetarian. Soda and
paczki will also be available - sold sepa-
rately. Tickets are priced at $12 for
adults and $6 for children 12 and
younger can be purchased from any
Rotarian, or at the door. Carry-outs will
be available.
Proceeds from the dinner and raffles
support local Rotary Club projects which
benefit the Belleville, Sumpter, Van
Buren tri-community, Van Buren Public
Schools, the Salvation Army and other
local charities. The club also annually
provides scholarships to graduates of
BellevilleHighSchool.
Granted
State Rep. Jeff Noble, above, congratulates students from the Northville
Robostangs robotics team during the Michigan Association of Computer Users
and Learning Annual Technology Showcase. The Michigan Department of
Education awarded a combined grant of $18,100 to FIRST Robotics programs at
Northville Public Schools and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools last month.
The Northville Robostangs and Redbulls robotics teams were awarded $2,500
and $1,300 respectively, with Plymouth-Canton receiving more than $14,000 for
26 programs ranging from elementary to high-school levels. "I'm very proud of
Northville and Plymouth-Canton schools for securing this important funding,"
Noble said. "It is essential to continue providing opportunities and funding to our
students, teachers, and school districts." FIRST is an international educational
organization focusing on the development and implementation of science and
technology in schools. The Michigan Department of Education awarded more
than $2.5 million in grants to FIRST programs in public and non-public schools
this year. Since 2014, Michigan has invested more than $12 million to FIRST pro-
grams.
