City hires former Westland development director
Alumni sought for honor
It didn't take Lori Fodale long
to find a new position when her
contract as the Economic
Development Director in
Westland was not renewed Jan.
31.
Last week, Fodale, who
worked in Westland for eight
years, was hired for the same job
in theCity ofWayne.
Fodale was introduced to the
members of the Wayne City
Council at their regular meeting
by City Manager Lisa Nocerini
who said that while there had
been interest from businesses
about moving to Wayne, there
had been no one for them to talk
to about the process. She said
Fodale's experience will bring a
newperspective to the city.
Fodale was the director of the
Wayne Chamber of Commerce
for 13 years prior to taking the
job inWestland.
Her $70,000 annual salary will
be split between the city and the
Downtown
Development
Authority (DDA) as she will also
serve as a staff person for that
group.
Nocerini said that Fodale
would help with economic devel-
opment planning for the future,
which is a key to bringing addi-
tional revenue into the city.
“Lori has the background that
we need and knows Wayne - her
family lived here,” said Nocerini.
“We have vacant buildings - that's
one of the biggest complaints we
hear. The city is in a financial sit-
uation where it needs to bring in
revenue.”
Nocerini said that employing
Fodalewould not impact the sup-
port the city has for the Wayne
Main Street project and Fodale
said that she is supportive of that
effort.
Currently, the City of Wayne
faces a $2.25 million budget
shortfall and auditors predict the
city could be out of money in
early 2017.
This year's commencement ceremony
forWayneMemorial High School will con-
tinue the tradition of awarding a
“Distinguished Alumni” medal to a gradu-
ate ofWayneMemorial HighSchool.
“We have hadmany outstanding people
graduate from Wayne Memorial,” said
Kevin Weber, Wayne principal. “Many
have contributed significantly to the bet-
terment of society on a local, state, nation-
al or international level. The
Distinguished Alumni Award is our way of
honoring an outstanding graduate on an
annual basis.”
Each winner is awarded a medal
inscribedwith the official school seal.
“This is an opportunity for our current
graduating class to hear first hand from a
former alumnus who has made his/her
mark on society,”Weber said.
The most difficult task is to locate the
many alumni who have distinguished
themselves since their graduation. For
that reason, Wayne Memorial officials are
asking the community to help in the
search. If any member of the community
wishes to nominate a Wayne Memorial
graduate, contact the principal's office at
Wayne Memorial High School, (734) 419-
2206. The school is located at 3001 Fourth
St.Wayne, Michigan 48184.
A “Distinguished Alumni” committee
has been established at Wayne Memorial
to decide on the recipient for 2016. An
announcement of thewinnerwill bemade
in mid-May, and the recipient will then be
honored at commencement, June 4.
Nominations are due byFeb. 26.
