Butterfly Ball tickets on sale
Tickets for the Valentine's Day tradition-
al ButterflyBall inCanton are nowon sale.
The dance returns to the Summit on the
Park Feb. 9 and 10, offering a unique expe-
rience and plenty of special memories for
dads anddaughters.
The evening will include dancing,
refreshments, a special butterfly souvenir,
and the highly anticipated- balloon drop
that caps off the festivities. Three dances
are scheduled this year, 6 p.m. Feb. 9 and 2
or 6 p.m. Feb. 10.
All three dances will in the Summit
Gymnasium.
Tickets are $11 for Canton residents and
$14 for non-residents. All ticket sales will
end Feb. 1. Dads and daughters, regardless
of age, are required to purchase a ticket to
attend. This annual event has sold out in
the past, so early ticket purchase is advised.

Pet CPR classes offered
Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA) is host-
ing a pet CPR and first aid training at the
Plymouth headquarters at 1260 Goldsmith
from6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5.
The class and training are free and will
explain how to care for pets in the event of
anemergency.

The Romulus Public Library will offer
free one-on-one computer tutoring includ-
ing help with Microsoft products, internet
browsing and web applications, social
media and email.

sion with one of the library professionals at

The Second Monday Book Club will

Solar energy is topic
Homegrown Knowledge: Power Your
Homewith Solar Energy will be the topic of
Dave Strenski of Solar Ypsilanti at a 7 p.m.
Jan. 11 at theBellevilleLibrary.
Strenski will discuss the economics of
solar power and how it works. Audiences
can bring their energy bill to get an esti-
mate of what it would cost to be 100 percent
solar powered.
Strenski will have a list of solar contrac-
tors available.
The discussion is sponsored by the
Friends of theLibrary.

Chess club tomeet
The Romulus Public Library Chess Club
will meet from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday,
Jan. 13.
All ages are welcome and the meeting is
free. No registration is necessary. Boards
will be provided by participants are wel-
come to bring their own. Children must be
accompaniedby an adult.
There will be some handouts to help
newplayers. Although this is not an instruc-
tional program, there will be experienced
players who are welcome to help new play-
ers learn the game.

Chamber hosts awards dinner
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce will host the annual Awards
Dinner, Holiday Party and Chinese Auction
on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Angel Food
Catering. Ticket cost is $50 per person and
includes a three-course buffet meal, bever-
ages, beer and wine. Tables of eight can be
purchased at a discount rate of $360, which
is a $5 savings per ticket. Ticket prices will
increase after the first of the year and at the
door.
The evening will include the presenta-
tion of the Ted Kuckelman, Leona Van
Buhler and Business of the Year awards,
dinner entertainment provided by Piano
Wars, and a Chinese Auction rounding out
the evening. Chamber membership awards
will also be presented.
Chamber representatives are currently
seeking sponsorships for the event.
Sponsors will be acknowledged at the
event.
Items are also being accepted for the
Chinese Auction. Pick-ups of donations can
be arranged and all those making a dona-
tionwill be acknowledged at the event.

MiniatureMasterpieces performed
The Michigan Philharmonic will per-
form chamber ensemble music performed
by 14 players during the Miniature
Masterpieces concert set for 2 p.m. Jan. 22

Daddy Daughter Dance set
The City of Plymouth will host the 6th
Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance from 6:30
until 8:30 p.m. on both Friday, Feb. 2 or
Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Plymouth Cultural
Center.
Light refreshments and snacks will be
served. Semi-formal, dressy-casual attire
recommended. Admission is $10/person
and because space is limited, advance tick-

High school to host open house
Wayne Memorial High School will
be hosting an 8th grade parent night at
6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the
Wayne Memorial High School
Stockmeyer Auditorium, 3001 Fourth
St.,Wayne.
This evening is for current eighth-
grade students and their families or
families interested in more informa-
tion about Wayne Memorial High
School for the 2018-2019 school year.
Students do not have to be currently
attending
a
Wayne-Westland
Community School to participate in
this event.
Topics covered will include: sched-
uling, graduation requirements, testing
out requirements, direct college cours-
es, AP courses, extra-curricular activi-
ties, and much more. All are welcome
to attend, and questions are encour-
aged.
