Past VFW Commander, 92, will appear in parade unit
Veterans from VFW Post 4012 will
be among the heroes honored at the
2014 Northville Independence Day
Parade this year. The group will march
as a Color Guard along with several of
the 300 members when they step off at
NorthvilleDowns at 10 a.m.
Commander Steve Frazer, a Purple
Heart recipient from the Vietnam War
who heads up the Northville Post, said
the veterans are readywith seven vehi-
cles which will join one of the most
popular Independence Day parades in
the state.
Riding in a vintage Jeep with a 50
caliper machine gun mounted on top
will be 92-year-old Past VFW
Commander Gordon Mason. Mason, a
World War II veteran, served in the
U.S. Navy and was at one time part of
the Post Honor Guard. Mason is still
active with the VFW is frequently
called upon to perform as a bugler for
ceremonies and funerals.
The VFW Post 4012 chartered in
1945 serves the Northville community
and is supportive of servicemen and
women at any time of need. For years
they have helped coordinate parades
and events with the American Legion
and opened the doors of their hall for
community events.
