“These festivals expose the town to people who might
otherwise not visit here. They may not come into business-
es while they are at the events, but they do come back and
they leave with a positive impression of the community.
Plymouth has built a great reputation throughout the
region and I think that's invaluable,” he said, “and I'm
proud to be a part of it.”
Geitzen said he feels that the city administration is very
supportive of the events for that reason and are particular-
ly helpful with the IceFestival.
“The city commissioners even bought an ice sculpture
themselves this year,” he said. “That just shows they are
committed to the success of the event.”
Geitzen said he is well aware that the Ice Festival began
as a way to attract people to business during the slow sea-
son following the holidays but he feels it has evolved into
muchmore.
“Sure it helps the restaurants and the businesses, of
course it does,” he said, “but it is good for the community as
awhole, too.
“If it were possible to harness the atmosphere in
Plymouth, any townwouldbe a success,” he concluded.
