booths. More importantly for visitors,
there will be a sitting area so they can
“take a load off” and lots of nice toasty
heat.
The Hot Spot is sponsored by DTE
Energy and will be open during the
regular hours of the festival.
MGM Grand is the sponsor of the
Party Lot at E.G.Nick's restaurant on
Forest Street this year. One of the tradi-
tions of the Ice Festival every year, the
Party Lot has become the place to be
for the evening crowd. The entertain-
ment is always a big draw, Walton said,
and the place is where the in-crowd
goes during the event. The Party Lot
will be open from6 p.m. until midnight
onbothFriday andSaturday.
Genisys Credit Union is sponsoring
the ice carving competitions this year.
The Ice Festival has partnered with
the National Ice Carving Association
(NICA) to produce the 31st annual col-
lege carving competition in Kellogg
Park.
“Visitors can watch live carving by
talented college student participants
as they compete to win a place on the
podium in their sculpture category. All
judging is done by certified NICA
judges and placing a win at the festival
means that the students can move for-
ward to regional competition status.”
Community Financial is sponsoring
the main stage live entertainment this
year, including the ice carving competi-
tion onSaturday night.
Blue Care Network of Michigan will
sponsor the Family Fun Zone present-
ed by Sun and Snow. Visitors can try
cross country skiing in Kellogg Park.
Seasoned professionals will demon-
strate and explain the gear and theory
of cross-country skiing - and then give
visitors a chance to try it
Walton said the course is bigger and
better than ever before. This feature is
open during all open hours of the
event.
“This is a great, interactive, family
event that people will really enjoy,”
Walton said.
