Member appreciation day set
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department will host a
Holiday Member Appreciation Day
at the Wayne Community Center,
from5:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Dec. 26.
There will be free use of all
amenities including the indoor
pool, exercise club, ice arena,
indoor track and dry/wet saunas.
There will be health snacks and
gifts during the day.

Hospital hosts blood drive
St. Mary Mercy Hospital and the
American Red Cross are partner-
ing in a blood drive campaign from
6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday,
Dec. 27, in the North Auditorium at
St. Mary Mercy Hospital, 36475
Five Mile Road at Levan. The past
six blood drives during 2012 have
collected 422 pints of blood, just shy
of a goal to collect 450 pints. The
American Red Cross encourages
area residents to join St. Mary
Mercy Hospital employees and vol-
unteers to donate blood and help
meet or exceed the goal.

appointment sheets in the hospital
cafeteria. Walk-ins are accepted,
but appointments are preferred.

Christmas BreakCamp offered
Children ages 6 to 12 are invited
to participate in Christmas Break
Kids Camp at the Romulus Athletic
Center, 35765NorthlineRoad.
The program is offered while
children are on winter break from
school. The first three-day session
will be 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dec. 26-
28; the second is Jan. 2-4.
Camp participants will have fun
in a safe, instructor-led environ-
ment. There will be numerous
games and activities, such as arts
and crafts, dodge ball, basketball,
rock climbing and swimming.
Admission is $50 per session for
members; $65 for non-members.
Lunch can be provided for an addi-
tional $4 per day.
Early drop-off (7 to 9 a.m.) and
late pickup (3 to 5 p.m.) are avail-
able at $6 per child per hour.
Advance registration is required
for the service.

NorthvilleNite party planned
The Northville Parks and
Recreation Department will host
the Northville Nite party from 4-7
p.m. Dec. 31 at the Recreation
Center atHillsideSchool.
This year the theme will be
Through the Decades and visitors
will return to the Roaring 20s and
travel through time to the future.
Activities will include crafts,
inflatable games, entertainment
and more. The Northville Rotary
Club members will be selling hot
dogs, pizza and beverages. At 7 p.m.
there will be an early New Years
countdown.

Kwanzaa to be celebrated.
A celebration of Kwanzaa, with
a focus on the principle of Imani
(faith) will take place from 3-6 p.m.
New Years Day at the Romulus
Civic League, 11495Wahrman St. in
Romulus.
There will be fellowship and
food served.
The event is sponsored by the
Romulus Civic League and the
Kheper-RaStudyGroup of Detroit.
"Through faith in ourselves, our
communities, our leaders, our cre-

WaistlineWinterizer available
Sign up for any "Waistline
Winterizer" class at any time for a

The unlimited class special runs
through March 31 and includes
land fitness classes and aquatic fit-
ness classes. Rates range from $80

Lifeguard training offered
An American Red Cross life-
guard training course is scheduled
for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 2-4 at the
Romulus Athletic Center, 35765
NorthlineRoad.
Participants in the winter break
course will be certified in Red
Cross lifeguarding, first aid, CPR,
AED and blood borne pathogens.
The course is open to individuals at
least 15 years old. Students will be
required to pass swimming prereq-
uisites on the first day of class to
continue with the course.
Participants must attend all three
sessions.
Admission is $240, which
includes coursematerials.

Group hosts fun run
Belleville Young Life will spon-
sor aRing in theNewYear! 5KFun
Run/Walk on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013
at VanBurenPark.
The event is a fundraiser and
participating runners and walkers
can compete for prizes while sup-
porting the Young Life organiza-
tion. Registration will begin at 10
a.m. and the 1K race for all chil-
dren will begin at 10:30 followed
immediately by the 5K race. The
registration fee is $20 for adults
and $10 for children. Proceeds
from the event will go to benefit
BellevilleYoungLife.

Artist'swork exhibited
The Village Theater at Cherry
Hill will exhibit the artwork of
KathyKosins throughDec. 31.
The artwork brings together a
collection of abstract works
inspired by themusic of jazz greats,
including strains from Miles Davis'
trumpet, Charlie Parkers' sax and
Bud Powells' piano riffs translated
into color and texture.
A past recipient of the Michigan
Council for the Arts' Jazz Composer
of the Year, Kosins has received
grants from Michigan's ArtServe
advocacy group.
Her clinics andworkshops teach
performance skills alongside busi-
ness strategies for the independent
artist and have been a success at
colleges and universities across the
USA.
The exhibit is free and available
from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday
through Friday, during public per-
formances at the theater and by
appointment by calling (734)394-
5308. The gallery, located at 50400
Cherry Hill Road in Canton, is
closed onholidays.

‘Wonderful Life’ at Tipping Point
After garnishing rave reviews
at Williamston Theatre last sea-
son, "ThisWonderful Life" ismak-
ing its way to Tipping Point
Theatre for theholiday season.
John Lepard reprises his
award-winning role as George
Bailey, Mr. Potter, and the entire
population of Bedford Falls in
this one-man stage interpretation
of Frank Capra's 1946 film "It's a
Wonderful Life".
Directed by Tony Caselli,
Lepard's performance in "This
Wonderful Life" is a tour de force
as he tells the story of how one
man (George Bailey) comes to
learn the value of a simple life
lived with humility, charity, and
dedication, a theater spokesper-
son said..
Fans of the movie will enjoy
this unique presentation of a
revered film, and first timers will
be introduced to a story that's
sure towarmthe heart, he added.
This Wonderful Life runs from
Dec. 21 through Dec. 31. The cur-
tain rises at 8 p.m. Fridays and
Saturdays, with matinees at 2
p.m. on Sundays, and 3 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 29.
A special New Year's Eve per-
formance of This Wonderful Life
is planned for 8 p.m. Dec. 31,
including an afterglowparty, with
appetizers provided by Rocky's of
Northville, live music, wine, and
a toast close tomidnight, immedi-
ately following the performance.
Tickets are $30 each for the
performances Dec. 21-30 and are
on sale now. "This Wonderful
Life" is not included in
SeasonPASSes, andno additional
discounts apply. Tickets for the
New Year's Eve performance are
$75 each, $50 of which is tax-
deductible.
