Commission hosts exhibit
The main gallery of the Plymouth
Community Arts Council will feature a solo
show, An Exhibit of Drawings & Paintings by
Jean-Paul Abou-Dib during the month of
December.
Abou-Dib's paintings and drawings fea-
ture the human form in the style of classic
realism, rendered in charcoal, graphite and
paint.
“I moved to the United States at a young
age from Tripoli Lebanon in 1987. Upon my
arrival, I discovered my potential as an artist
would flourish and thrive as I witnessed
inspiration as far as my eyes could see,” the
artist said.
“I've always had an immense passion for
art and considered myself blessed to be able
to manifest my creativity in the physical
form. All throughmy childhood, and evenmy
adult life, I've engaged in drawing and paint-
ing utilizing various mediums and conceptu-
al subject matters. Furthermore, I decided to
pursuemy artistic endeavors in an academic
capacity. I earned a scholarship out of high
school to the College for Creative Studies in
the drawing and painting department. After
earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, I
went on to achieve a Master of Fine Arts
degree from Wayne State University,” he
said.
“My style, I suppose, could be categorized
as some variation of classical realism. I'm
interested in the interpretation of the figure
in its purist form of expression. My work
attempts to employ the technical traditions
of classical anatomy, the convincing repre-
sentation of form, andmultiple psychological
complexities, yet subtle nature of the subject.
I have exhibitedmy work in various galleries
and spaces in the state of Michigan and com-
pleted several public and private commis-
sions throughout the region.”
The December Front Wall exhibit will fea-
ture drawings, paintings and photography by
the Plymouth Community Arts Council adult
art students of instructors Denise Cassidy
(acrylics classes), Pam Grossmann (drawing
and painting classes), and Christina Evans
(photography andpainting classes).
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Mondays through Thursdays, during all pub-
lic events and by appointment. The exhibits
will continue through Jan. 2.

This year, he said, he anticipates more
than 100 ice sculptures, a cross-county ski
demonstration area for families and a Hot
Spot warming tent with local merchants, ven-
dors, food and a performance and demon-
stration stage.
Walton said that this year he is planning
on live entertainment and stage shows
throughout the weekend and some fun inter-
active ice sculpture displays for family pho-
tos.
He also said there will be an AGA Nation
snowboarding demonstration on Forest
Avenue and the Dueling Chainsaws Speed
Carving Show will return on Saturday
evening.
“This is an amazing event,” Walton said.
“Our biggest challenge is obviously the
weather. There have been years when t-
shirts and shorts were appropriate work
wear for the crew and we have had tempera-
tures so cold, the ice actually became too
brittle to sculpt.
“We try to predict what is going to happen,
but it's almost useless and more for our own
amusement than anything else. We just have
to be ready for anything;” he said.
“The change makes the event more desir-
able to major sponsors and that's what we
need to make it more attractive to every-
body,” he said.
“Where else but Plymouth can the city
and the businesses roll out the red carpet for
100,000 visitors to downtown in the middle of
January?”
