crimes. For all the families of vic-
tims of crimes I could solve and
give you closure, I'm glad. For
those victims of crimes and their
families that I could not solve, I'm
sorry.
And I am deeply sorry that it
was politics and ignorance that
interfered with the investigation of
your loved one's case. I hope you
can have at least peace, if not clo-

To the editor;
The 2013 holiday season is upon
us, and again this year, Romulus
Goodfellows Inc. is receiving a
large number of requests for assis-
tance fromourRomulus residents.
As you are aware, most of our
fundraising efforts are done
through the sale of our annual
newspaper. This year, the newspa-
pers will be sold from noon until
3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and
from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Goodfellows are seeking
volunteers to sell papers. Time
slots are typically two to three
hours (you canworkmore hours or
less) Please share this informa-
tion and invite your neighbors and
co-workers to volunteer. A few
hours of your time can help us
reach our goal of "No Romulus
Child without a Christmas" in the
City of Romulus.
Please contact Julie at 734-955-
4501 or the Goodfellows Hotline at
(734) 955-4777 as soon as possible to
schedule your time to volunteer!

Yankee Air Museum plans birthday party
Romulus Goodfellows sale begins tomorrow
Festival of Trees now open at Belleville Museum
The Yankee Air Museum will
celebrate the 70th birthday of a
combat veteran still flying at 70
years oldDec. 8.
The celebration will honor the
Yankee Warrior, a North American
B-25D Mitchell bomber that has
been lovingly restored by the
museum and remains in top-flight
condition, according to Ray
Hunter, chairman of the board of
directors at the Yankee Air
Museum.
The birthday party is planned
for 1-4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Hangar 1, Bay
8, on the west side of Willow Run
Airport. Admission is free and
open to the public and birthday
cake and soft drinkswill be served.
“This is a great opportunity for
the public to get up close and learn
more about an historic World War
II aircraft,” said Hunter. “It's
important and it's a tangible appli-
cation of our mission to preserve
and honor aviation history and its
participants through a living, flying
museum.”
The B-25 rolled off the assembly
line on Dec. 8, 1943, Hunter
explained, and was delivered to
the United States Army Air Force
on Dec. 17, 1943. This medium
bomber flew with the 12th Air
Force, 57th Bomb Wing, 340th
Bombardment Group, 489th
Bombardment Squadron based in
Corsica, Italy. This B-25 Mitchell
flew eight successful combat mis-
sions and is now one of only two
remaining D models and one of
only two B-25s with a documented
combat history.
The plane was acquired by the
Yankee Air Museum in 1987 and
flies regularly in the spring and
summer. The plane is never on dis-
play, Hunter said.
“Having an event like this, espe-
cially the day after Pearl Harbor
Day, is important to the community,
said Kevin Walsh, executive direc-
tor of the Yankee Air Museum.
“Aircraft of this type, and their gal-
lant crews, provided the first strike
back at the enemy in April 1942.
Now, we remember and respect
our veterans while providing
teachable moments for our young
people.”
To find the hanger, follow road
signs for west and south access to
Willow Run Airport to get to
Hangar 1. Entry will be through
the door under the awning of M2
Airraft Management, Willow Run
Airport, Kirk Profit Drive, Building
2601, Hangar 1, Ypsilanti, Yankee
Air Museum security volunteers
will be on hand to help direct free
parking and access to the Yankee
Warrior birthday party.
Christmas is rapidly approach-
ing, and members of the Romulus
Goodfellows are hard at work seek-
ing volunteers and financial support
so they can provide for the needy
senior citizens and families of
Romulus.
The Goodfellows are planning
their annual Goodfellows paper sale
on the streets of the city on Friday,
Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. Funds
raised go toward their holiday goal
of “NoChildWithout aChristmas.”
The Goodfellows' fundraising
efforts provide the gift of a joyous
Christmas to families with children,
many of whom would not have had
anything on their table or under the
Christmas tree, noted Linda
McNeil, a trustee with the
Goodfellows organization in
Romulus.
The Goodfellows date back to
1914 when a man named Joseph
Brady was deeply moved by a car-
toon he saw in The Detroit News.
The drawing by Burt Thomas
depicted a well-to-do gentleman
holding gifts for the poor with one
hand alongwith the ghostly image of
a poor newsboy wearing a shirt that
said “the boy he used to be.”
The group remains under the
direction of Fire Chief David
Allison, but has expanded to include
volunteers from various walks of
life. The volunteers stand in some of
the busiest city intersections, seek-
ing donations from travelers in
return for a copy of the annual full-
color holiday publication.
“There is truly nothing more
rewarding than knowing you have
provided a Christmas to a family
that wouldnot have had onewithout
the help of the Goodfellows,” said
McNeil, a senior secretary in the
City of Romulus Planning
Department.
Donations to the nonprofit organ-
ization can be made by making
checks payable to “Romulus
Goodfellows Inc.”
Romulus senior citizens provide
donations of canned goods, pres-
ents, scarves, gloves and hats every
year while community organizations
and businesses participate. Some
sponsor toy drives or make mone-
tary donations, McNeil said.
The Belleville Area Museum will
host the 18th Annual Festival of
Holiday trees during regular muse-
umhours throughDec. 28.
The museum is located at 405
MainSt. inBelleville.
The silent auction of trees will
take place through Dec. 10 and Santa
will be at the museum from 10 a.m.
until 3 p.m. Dec. 14 and from noon
until 4 p.m. Dec. 21.
Themuseum is open from3-7 p.m.
on Tuesdays and from noon until 4
p.m.Wednesday throughSaturday.
