hadmade the right decisions. This
is not a very comfortable position
to be in.
To this day, we do not know
what the true facts are, that is for
the legal system to figure out. The
bottom line is, our decisions in any
capacity should reflect our pride in
our city and in our department.
We have learned many things this
election season, these lessons will
assist us in being a better union
and helping our city become a bet-
ter place. We look forward to a
bright future for all.
Wayne Fire Fighters Local 1620
ing order tomake themstop.
These people simply want to
vote. Isn't that the American way?
Majority rules?
They're not a bunch of radical,
group-mentality wierdos, either. I
mean, like nobody wears a little
aluminum foil hat to the township
meetings or anything. These are
rational, intelligent taxpayers who
simply want to exercise their rights
and vote on this issue. Township
officials, however, are just as
adamant that they will not be
allowed to and that the fire depart-
ment will be gutted before they can
take any serious action. These offi-
cials have dug in their heels and
are determined to fill the $1 mil-
lion hole in the fire department
budget with cuts in personnel and
service, rather than let people vote
on a millage or accept an $880,000
two-year federal grant or start
billing insurance companies for
transportation services to hospi-
tals. Northville officials were smart
enough to take that step early this
year and generated megabucks in
the first sixmonths.
The township officials may have
some excellent reasons for their
actions, but for the life ofme, I can't
figure it out. Why not let the voters,
who put them in office in the first
place, vote on this issue?
Oh, wait a minute, I think I am
getting a glimmer here. Do they
think the same voters are so unin-
formed they won't do what is best
for the township using their own
experience with them as a bench-
mark? Like, if these guys elected
them, they're likely to do just about
anything? Are they truly that arro-
gant?
I sure hope not and I also hope
this citizens group keeps up their
efforts to get the issue on the ballot.
If it gets to be too late and the fire
department is already disbanded
before that happens, I have some
advice for them, despite all my
son's cautions.
Maybe they can channel their
petition gathering efforts into a
recall.
Just a thought.
