Lightfest nowopen
TheWayneCounty Lightfest will
be open through Dec. 31, except
ChristmasDay.
Two new displays have been
added this year and the entire light
show has been converted to LED
lights. The show features more
than 47 giant animated holiday
themed displays. It is the largest
and longest drive-through light
show in theMidwest, officials said.
Buddy Up programoffered
Allen "Buddy" Shuh, a contest-
ant from season 13 of NBC's
Biggest Loser, will present his
"Buddy Up" program for free and
will allowresidents to join together
and get healthy during the winter
months.
Buddy Up 2.0 will be a 7-week
program that ends in a 5K run or
walk through the Wayne Westland
Parks andRecreationDepartment.
The program will begin Jan. 11.

Oral history presented
The Yankee Air Museum will
present a video by the late Charles
McClain, a Pearl Harbor survivor
as part of theHistoric Presentation
Night series.
The free event is open to the
public and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 4 in the General Purpose
Room at the museum headquar-
ters, 47884D. St. Belleville.
Mr. McClain was involved in
World War II from before Pearl
Harboor until the end of thewar.

Clothing being collected
Station 885 Restaurant in Old
Village of Plymouth and La
Bistecca ItalianGrille onPlymouth
Road are both involved in the Suits
for Soldiers collection project.
Suits for Soldiers provides services
for veterans including clothing
them for job interviews, counsel-
ing, job interview help and much
more.
The restaurants are accepting
gently used, clean clothing through
Nov. 30 which will then be distrib-
uted to members of the armed
forces through the Suits for
Soldiers organization. Monetary
donations will also be accepted.

Suits for Soldiers.

Holidayweight challenge set
The Wayne Westland Parks and
RecreationDepartment is sponsor-
ing the Holiday Weight
Maintenance challenge.
The man and woman with the
most combined percent of weight
loss and body fat will be awarded
the grand prize in the contest. The
initial weigh in is set for 9 a.m.
until noon on Saturday and the
final weigh-out is scheduled at the
same times fromJan. 2 through 8.
Resident entry fee is $10 and
non-resident entry cost is $20.
Participants who maintain their
weight and body fat within 1 pound
and or 1 percent will split the
funds with others who have main-
tained or lost weight. Organizers
said most participants will get
their entry fee back.

The Friends of the Library have
scheduled used book sales for
noon to 4 p.m. the second Friday
and Saturday of the month in the
Romulus Public Library meeting

Crafty Storytime on Tuesday
The Leanna Hicks Inkster
Public Library hosts Crafty
Storytime from 5-6 p.m. every
Tuesday for children 10 years of
age and younger.
Parents and siblings are also
welcome at the hour when chil-
dren can enjoy a story and a fun
craft.

HAP supports Silver Sneakers
HAP Medicare Advantage will
now reimburse up to $20 a month
or $240 per year for memberships,
group water fitness classes and
personal training through the
Wayne-Westland Parks and
Recreation Silver Sneakers pro-
gram.
Members must submit a copy of
a membership contract, receipt
and usage report to receive the
reimbursement.
Silver Sneakers includes access
to features such as the cardio the-
ater area, indoor pool and track,
wet and dry saunas, whirlpool, a
wellness area and the ice arena.

Chamber, Rotary host Tastefest
The Westland Chamber of
Commerce and the Westland
Rotary Club will host the 2013
Holiday Taste Fest from 6-9 p.m.
Dec. 3 at the Hellenic Cultural
Center located at 36375 Joy Road
inWestland.
Admission is $25 and includes
food and entertainment. This gour-
met adventure includes some of
the finest area restaurants and
culinary artists featuring holiday
displays. Entertainment will be
provided by Bart Ventura as Frank
Sinatra as well as emcees Ralph
and Kim Cabildo. There will also
be an Ugly Sweater Contest with a
grand prize of a $100 Visa gift card,
courtesy of Co-op Services Credit
Union.

gift baskets, trips, services, golf,

Goodfellows plan fundraiser
The City of Wayne Goodfellows
and Friends will host their 27th
Annual Fundraiser from 5:50 p.m.
until midnight Dec. 6 at Wayne
Tree Manor, 35100 Van Born Road
inWayne.
The $25 ticket price includes a
full dinner buffet, dessert, soft
drinks and an entry into the door
prize drawing.
The evening will include prizes,
raffles, auctions, a DJ, dancing and
a cashbar.
All proceeds will benefit the
City of Wayne Goodfellows No
Child Without a Christmas pro-
gram.

Library hosts clothing drive
The Romulus Public Library,
11121 Wayne Road. will host a win-
ter clothing drive until Dec. 7. The
goal is to think about others during
the holidays by providing warmth
during the cold Michigan winter.
The collection will include mittens
and hats, whichwill be turned over
to the Romulus Goodfellows for
distribution to local families.

St. Nick Frolic set inCanton
The Canton Senior Center
Annual St. Nick Frolic will take
place at the Summit on the Park
Grand Ballroom from noon until 4
p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11. This
special event will include prizes,
entertainment and a holiday meal
prepared by the Summit's new
caterer - Katherine's Catering. A
vegetarian entree option will also
be available.
Sounds of the season will be
provided by The Silver Sounds and
the PCEP Madrigal Choir of
Canton.

Belleville Festival of Trees opens
The Belleville Area Museum
will host the 18th Annual Festival
of Holiday trees during regular
museumhours throughDec. 28.
The museum is located at 405
MainSt. inBelleville.
The silent auction of trees will
take place through Dec. 10 and
Santa will be at the museum from
10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dec. 14 and
fromnoonuntil 4 p.m. Dec. 21.
The museum is open from 3-7

until 4 p.m. Wednesday through
Saturday.

Theater presents FlutterbyHour
FlutterBy Hour, which will
include happy, sad, silly, poignant
and fun holiday stories, will be pre-
sented by Barefoot Productions at
8 p.m. Dec. 7. Audience members
can sign up to share their favorite
holiday memories during the open
mic portion of the program.
Holiday cookies will be avail-
able and Vintner's Canton Winery
will provide complimentary hot
mulledwine.
