High school students present ‘Noises off’
Annual Holiday Taste Fest set in Westland
Holiday weight maintenance challenge under way
The Belleville High School
Drama Department will present
Noises Off, a comedy by Michael
Frayn. Shows will begin at 7
tonight, Nov. 22 and 23 at the
Belleville High School auditorium,
Belleville High School, 501West
ColumbiaAve., Belleville.
Noises Off is a play within a play
and focuses on a production of a
fictional show entitled Nothing On
where the cast and crew crumble
throughout its 10-week run. The set
is designed to be reversible so the
audience sees part of the show
from backstage. In Belleville, the
set has been designed and crafted
by Yvette (Ihlenfeldt) Kashmer and
her student crews.
The main character of Dotty
Otley, the middle-aged actress, is
played by student Magdalena
Rieder, and the part of director
Lloyd Dallas, is played by the expe-
rienced Ethan Klobucar. Tyler
Kearns plays Gary, the energetic
actor who can never quite finish
his thoughts. Belinda, the charac-
ter who is the glue that holds the
show together, is played by Justine
Bradley, and her sidekick andmale
counterpart, Frederick, is por-
trayed by Andrew Attard. Brook,
the daft, yet attractive actress, is
portrayed by Kailyn Gray. Austin
O'Neil brings a smile as the sauced,
aged actor Selsdon, whereas the
adorable backstage director is
played by Alexis Hatchard. Jair
Legget completes the ensemble as
the lovable stagehand and stand-in
actor, Tim. Student directors for the
production are Brittney McGlynn,
Alexa Porcaro and Mathilde
Burchardi
Tickets are $6 for students and
senior citizens, $7 for adults and
will be available in the school
auditorium lobby and on perform-
ance dates in the auditorium lobby,
45 minutes before the 7 p.m. cur-
tain.
Monit was the third in a series of
lawsuits in his battle to curtail the
false and defamatory statements
made against him. “I am defending
myself against these scurrilous
charges,” he said.
Sanders said that the first lawsuit
in this series was decided in his
favor recently. Another suit, against
aWayne resident, is currently under
way and a suit against Sherrie
Brindley, the former executive
director of the Wayne Chamber of
Commerce and co-founder and
board member of the Wayne Ripple
Effect, “will be filed soon,” Sanders
said.
The suit against Monit, which
was filed Nov. 8 in Wayne County
Circuit Court, demands damages of
more than $25,000. The lawsuit
claims thatMonit's comments falsely
labeled Sanders a pedophile which
severely damaged his reputation
and standing in the community.
Canton Township attorney Ronald
Ruark filed the suit on Sanders'
behalf.
Monit said that his attorney had
advised him not to comment on the
suit but refused to identify his legal
counsel. “I don't think that's appro-
priate,” he said. Negative comments
about Sanders, attributed to Monit,
weremade as late as Saturday after-
noon on a local website, however.
Sanders pleaded guilty in 2011 to
a misdemeanor charge of providing
alcohol to minors and served one
year of probation in that case. The
charges stemmed, he said, from
alcohol being consumed by minors
who had rented a limousine for
which he was responsible. Part of
his probation included no contact
with youths involved in that incident
and no unsupervised contact with
minors.
Those charges played heavily in
the campaigns of several candidates
for city council in 2011. Sanders was
among theunsuccessful candidates.
