International Festival is Saturday in Canton
Parents warned of staph infection at school
Music, dance and drama
from around the world will be
featuredwhen the International
Festival returns to The Village
Theater at Cherry Hill this
Saturday, Nov. 15. The cultural
and educational festival, which
will take place from 11:30 a.m.-5
p.m., will offer audiences enter-
tainment and experiences cele-
brating diverse customs and tra-
ditions on themain stage of The
Village Theater, located at 50400
CherryHill Road inCanton.
Featuredperformerswill cel-
ebrate the diversity of the
Canton community through
song and dance from various
cultural groups including:
China, India, Ireland, Mexico,
New Zealand, Polynesia; Tahiti
and theUnitedStates.
“Canton's International
Festival is fun for the entire
family,” said Anthony Davis,
chairperson of the Canton
Commission for Culture, Arts
and Heritage. “It is also enter-
taining, educational and totally
enjoyable. Come on out and cel-
ebrate the talent and diversity
that is Canton.”

A warning to parents regard-
ing MRSA, a serious and highly
contagious staph infection, was
sent home from Hillside
Middle School last week.
“Northville Public Schools
was notified of a confirmed
case of MRSA (meticillin
Resistant Staphylocccus) at
Hillside Middle School. The
positive result was communi-
cated to administration at
Hillside over the weekend. The
student is under doctor (sic)
care is currently being treated,”
read an email sent to parents
by Hillside Principal Jim
Cracraft
and
district
Nurse/Consultant
Marie
Boczar.
Wayne County Health
Department officials have
issued multiple warnings
regarding the infectionwhich is
resistant to antibiotics.
“MRSAmay cause infections
in the skin, lung, and blood. A
Community Acquired MRSA
infection is found in persons
who have not been hospitalized
but may have had a medical
procedure such as surgery or
dialysis within the past year,”
noted Wayne County Health
Department officials.
The Northville school case
was reported to the school offi-
cials by the parents of the
affected student.
“The student's family did an
excellent job of keeping us
informed and the suspected
wound was covered at all times
to minimize the risk of trans-
mission to others,” the email to
parents fromthe school noted.
Officials said that the school
has cleaned all areas of the
school where the student had
contact.
Santa will visit Canton Township for a
special breakfast Dec. 6 at the Summit on
thePark.
During breakfast, children can share
their Christmas wish list with Santa while
posing for pictures. Parents are encour-
aged to bring cameras and video equip-
ment to capture the great photo opportu-
nities. Activities include a winter craft, as
well as a Christmas story time. Children
will also receive a holiday souvenir,
crayons, and a placemat to color.

the Summit Front Desk, located at 46000
Summit Parkway, during normal business
hours. Online registration is not available.
Ticket prices for Canton residents are:
$19 for ages 13 and older; $15 for ages 4
through 12 and $4 for children 3 and
younger.

While the Northville Board of
Education does not have the authority to
approve or deny such a request, Wayne
RESA has asked that each of the respec-
tive boards of education take a position on
the Property Transfer Request before the
Wayne RESA board members make a
decision or recommendation. As a result,
theNorthvilleBoard of Education is offer-
ing an opportunity for public input prior
to taking a formal position on the Property
Transfer Request. The Public Comment
will take place as part of the board of edu-
cation regular meetings at 7:30 p.m. Nov.
18 at Northville High School, 45700 Six
MileRoad.
Under theMichigan School Code (MCL
380.951), property owners residing in one
school district can petition their local
Intermediate School District to ask that
their neighborhoodbe “detached” fromits
current school district and “attached” to a
contiguous school district.
Wayne RESA, which has 60 days from
the Oct. 3 filing date to act on the request,
has asked that each of the respective
Boards of Education for Plymouth-Canton
and Northville take a formal position
either in support of or not in support of
the Property Transfer Request.,
Northville Board of Education members
are expected to vote on its position at the
Tuesday, Nov. 18, meeting at Northville
High School, where there will be an
opportunity for additional public com-
ment prior to the vote. The Wayne RESA
board members will consider the
Property Transfer Request at the
Wednesday, Nov. 19, meeting.
